Medical student earns recognition as Culture Champion

Jose Malavet, third-year medical student at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM), receive a culture coin from Kira Zwygart, MD, associate dean of the MCOM Office of Student Affairs. 

Jose Malavet, a third-year medical student at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine (MCOM), recently earned a USF Health Culture Coin for promoting compassion and selfless service when a member of the MCOM community needed it.
 
According to the nomination write up, when a member from MCOM was diagnosed with stage-four cancer and their insurance would not cover the cost of chemotherapy, Malavet rallied to helped raise funds to offset medical expenses.  Due to his efforts and calls to action, this MCOM colleague entered a cancer-treatment program.  
 
Kira Zwygart, MD, associate dean of the MCOM Office of Student Affairs, presented Malavet with his Culture Coin December 5 among staff, faculty, and his fellow medical students.
