USF Health’s Joanne Sullivan earns major community award

USF Health’s Joanne B. Sullivan was recently presented with the 2024 Dottie Berger MacKinnon Woman of Influence Award by the Tampa Bay Chamber.

Sullivan, who is assistant vice president of Community Engagement for USF Health, was presented with the award at the group’s annual Woman of Influence Awards Luncheon event, held Friday, March 22. She is one of only 18 to have ever received the honor.

“Joanne’s entire nature, professional accomplishments and unending ability to exude positivity and enthusiasm display her continued selflessness,” said Wendy Ross, in her nomination of Sullivan for the award. “As part of her relationship building, Joanne has gladly given her time, energy and reputation to help others create and build their own relationships in the corporate and civic communities of Tampa Bay. She asks for nothing in return, receiving her gratification from the emerging networks and successes of others. Joanne is tireless in her efforts on behalf of those (and there are many) who seek her mentorship, guidance and assistance.”

Sullivan developed, launched and leads USF Health LIFT (Leadership and Innovation Forum of Tampa), an exclusive membership organization designed to connect and unite innovators and leaders from across Tampa Bay who are committed to advancing the economic and physical health of the region.

Charles Lockwood, MD, MHCM, executive vice president of USF Health and dean of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, noted Sullivan’s lasting community impact when she created the LIFT program, saying it has enabled leaders at USF Health to collaborate with leaders in the region.

“Joanne consistently demonstrates the leadership skills needed to build and guide teams with positive reassurance,” Dr. Lockwood said.

Calling herself a “serial connector” and “friend raiser” Sullivan is known as a champion for USF Health, galvanizing the support of business leaders, community stakeholders, and elected officials for nearly a decade so as to contribute to the success of USF Health.

The annual Dottie Berger MacKinnon Woman of Influence Award pays tribute to a woman exemplifying outstanding professional values; going above and beyond the normal expectations of a leader; and serving as an inspiration to the community. An 18-year tradition, and a closely guarded secret, the award announcement surprising Sullivan was made during the Tampa Bay Chamber’s sold-out Women of Influence Luncheon at the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street.
