Sandra L. "Sandy" Murman, a respected public servant and community leader whose career has spanned more than four decades, has joined the USF Health College of Nursing Council of Advisors. Murman's extensive experience in healthcare policy, workforce development and community engagement will support the college's priorities of strengthening community partnerships and expanding the pipeline of nurses entering the region's workforce.
Murman, an executive vice president and principal local practice at Shumaker Advisors, has served local communities for more than 40 years. She spent ten years as a Hillsborough County commissioner, including several years as chair. Prior to her time on the Board of County Commissioners, Murman served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives for eight years and was the first Republican woman to hold the position of speaker pro tempore.
During her time as a public servant, Murman focused on strengthening communities by addressing critical issues including homelessness, opioid addiction, mental health, and child safety. While serving in the Florida Legislature, she held leadership roles on the Health and Human Services Appropriations Committee and Health Policy Council, where she championed reforms to nursing homes, helped secure funding for hospitals and early childhood education, supported the creation of workforce development boards, and advanced initiatives benefiting communities across Florida.
Murman also has unique insight into the local workforce, having served on the Career Source Tampa Bay board for ten years. A fixture of the local community, Murman has been actively involved with and recognized by more than 30 area organizations.

Sandy brings an extraordinary combination of public service leadership, healthcare policy experience and deep community engagement to our Council of Advisor. Her decades of work supporting local communities will be invaluable as we continue to educate future nurses, address critical workforce needs and elevate the health of the communities we serve.
