NPHC Extravaganza Step Show

Tuesday, October 15 | 7:00PM - 10:00PM | MSC Ballroom

Over the years, fraternities and sororities within the National Pan-Hellenic Council popularized the art of stepping. The origin of stepping and strolling mimic dance styles and traditions associated with African roots. Many organizations use ideas and styles from African tribes and incorporate them into different body movements. Although it has evolved over the years, the overall purpose is to display the creative abilities and the distinctive themes of the respective organizations.

At the University of South Florida, the National Pan-Hellenic Council was chartered in 1996 and has carried out the tradition of stepping in what we now know as the Extravaganza Step Show. Step shows have been gaining popularity across the world. Children and adolescents of all ages, from elementary to high school, can attend the step show and potentially see our members as role models to provide a positive path for them to follow. The Fraternity and Sorority Life community at USF consists of over 1,500 members across all four councils. This step show has gained the support of our colleagues and even Fraternity and Sorority Alumni. The Extravaganza Step Show is a performance put on annually for the university community. Students from various institutions travel to Tampa to engage in the festivities every year. This step show has enriched the campus life at the University of South Florida and the Fraternity and Sorority community as one of the various traditions the university already takes pride in.
