Elise Poppen

Elise Poppen is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Instruction in Classics in the World Languages Department at USF. She received her Ph.D. in Classics, with a focus in Greek Archaeology, from SUNY University at Buffalo in 2023.

Her research focuses on the houses and farmhouses of Roman Attica, including aspects such as their location in the countryside or urban landscape, the evidence for production, and their inhabitants. Elise teaches classes on Greek and Roman daily life, mythology, and the online course on Medical Terminology.

Elise has participated in archaeological fieldwork at Olynthos and Corinth in Greece as well as in the United States (ND, MN, and TX). She has given conference papers related to her research, particularly on gender in the domestic space and the evidence for production and industry in the countryside of Roman Attica. She is a transplant to Tampa from Minnesota.
