At the February 16, 2022 Faculty Senate meeting, Provost Wilcox shared an update on the status of the ASL Interpreter Training Program housed in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in CBCS.

First a little bit of background, there had been communication shared that the program was being canceled over the prior week. Provost Wilcox shared that at this time, it was not being canceled. In fact, no program can be canceled without his approval. At that time, there had been no request for such a move. If there had, the Provost said he would not more forward on it without deeper due diligence and consultation with the faculty and stakeholders. He acknowledged that there is a need for trained ASL interpreters in Florida.

There has been a lot of interest in this development from students, alumni, and the Deaf Community. Currently a CBCS Advisory Committee has been formed to consider the issue.
