March Budget Update

faculty senate information

Faculty Senate President Boaz explained that the new budget process is moving forward and there are Faculty Senate representatives in two of the five workgroups. President Boaz is on the resource allocation group and Scott Besley (Chair of the General Education Council) is on the reporting workgroup.

The resource allocation group has been reviewing models for allocating existing resources and how to handle things within different colleges that could enhance future revenue generation. Scott Besley shared that the reporting group is reviewing how to make the relevant information transparent, easy to access, and understandable.

Starting on March 28, the budget committee will meet with each of the 17 support areas (HR, Facilities, Provost’s Office, etc.), and will share what their needs are, how they can be more efficient, where there are overlaps, and priority areas. Following those presentations, the colleges will present and then a few additional units like the USF Libraries to begin working on the FY 2023 budget. Lastly, Helios will present a campus benchmarking presentation to explore how to make better decisions concerning support areas.

Looking forward, the Faculty Senate will get an additional update on April 20 from Interim Senior Vice President for Financial Strategy, Rich Sobieray.
