Global Virus Network Experts: New Flu Strain Underscores Urgent Need for Vigilance, Vaccination, and Investment in Virus Science
The Global Virus Network (GVN), a coalition of leading human and animal virologists in more than 40 countries dedicated to advancing pandemic preparedness through research, education and training, and global health solutions, today issued a statement on the emergence of a new influenza A (H3N2) variant known as H3N2 subclade K that is spreading rapidly and may contribute to a more intense flu season worldwide. Public health agencies in the United Kingdom, several countries across Europe, Japan, and parts of North America have reported sharp week-over-week increases in cases driven by this subclade, signaling accelerated global spread.

Converting an internship to fellowship
Rajkotwala graduated from the COPH in May with a bachelor of science in public health, a concentration in global health and minors in environmental health and infection control. She credits faculty at the COPH with nurturing her interests. It was also at COPH where she first heard about the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) internship.

Corridor partnership expands undergraduate research and advances experiential learning at USF
The Florida High Tech Corridor and USF Research & Innovation are expanding opportunities for undergraduate research across the University of South Florida, funding programs in all 14 colleges, USF St. Petersburg, and Undergraduate Studies for 2025–26. Through the continued Corridor Undergraduate Research Initiative, more than 200 students will gain hands-on, faculty-mentored research experience in disciplines ranging from engineering and artificial intelligence to public health, education, sustainability, and the arts.

A president emeritus, two deans and 12 professors from University of South Florida will be recognized for their professional accomplishments at the annual meeting of the Academy of Science, Engineering & Medicine of Florida on Friday, November 7, 2025 in Orlando, Florida. Distinguished University Professor Yogi Goswami, Ph.D., will begin his term as president of ASEM-FL on the same day.
