Our Mission
The President's Committee on Issues of Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (CISOGI) is charged to (a) advise the President on matters pertaining to issues of sexual and/or affectional orientation as they pertain to USF faculty, staff, and students and (b) evaluate and monitor the university environment for problems and issues related to these matters.

The overall goal of CISOGI is to assist the President in creating a positive climate for LGBT people and bringing equity and fairness to LGBT faculty, staff, and students in order to maximize their talents and their contributions to the university and community.


Membership
The Committee on Issues of Sexual Orientation and Gender identity members are nominated by the faculty senate, the staff senate, the A&P Council and Student Government.

The term of members is 3 years for USF employees. The committee develops annual goals and meets monthly to work in conjunction with other campus organizations to achieve these goals.

Each year, the committee seeks new members to fill vacancies that exist. If you are interested in joining this committee or receiving additional information, please contact the committee chair, Dr. Karen Berkman at 813-974-4033.


Accomplishments
  • Sexual orientation is now included in the USF faculty and Staff personnel rules and in the diversity and non-discrimination policy.
  • Co-host campus activities to further our mission in collaboration with other LGBT organizations.
  • Collaborate and support the Annual GALA Diversity and Networking Reception
  • Collaborate wit the Alumni Association in establishing the LGBT scholarship fund (#900005) to support academic achievement.
Goals
  • Support USF's efforts to offer domestic partner benefits to faculty and staff
  • Promote the development of a LGBT Resource Center
  • Facilitate LGBT research and scholarly activities
  • Broaden communication of the sexual orientation policy
  • Increase linkages to LGBT students and support their success at USF
