IRS Data Retrieval Tool

The IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IRS DRT) allows you to transfer your income data directly into the FAFSA from the IRS. Use of the IRS DRT speeds up the processing of your FAFSA.

If you are selected for verification for the 2018-2019 school year and are required to submit tax return transcripts, you may update your FAFSA using the IRS DRT instead of providing paper copies of your tax return transcripts. The IRS DRT is only available for completion for the 2018-2019 FAFSA.

If you are completing the 2017-2018 FAFSA, you will need to use your (and parents, if a dependent student) 2015 tax return data. If you are selected for verification for 2017-2018 and are required to submit tax return transcripts, you may request them online through the IRS 'Get Transcript' option. Instructions for requesting a copy of tax transcripts can be found here.
