Integrative Mental Health Care

Description

The University of South Florida, Department of Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling Certificate in Integrative Mental Health Care is for students and professionals seeking specialized training in behavioral health counseling. This certificate is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of holistic theory and practices within the counseling process, and holistic perspectives and approaches to wellness. It also is designed to familiarize students with integrative healthcare and supports students in developing a capacity to examine lifestyle choices and their impact on health. The Integrative Mental Health Care Certificate Program is designed for mature students and courses will be scheduled in a flexible manner. Since many of these students are employed, courses will be offered in the evenings, on weekends, or in concentrated institute-like formats (alternative calendar).

Course location/delivery

This certificate is offered on the Tampa campus.

Admission requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA from a regionally accredited institution in one of the following disciplines: counseling, psychology, social work, substance abuse, or related mental health field, or in nursing, nutrition, or public health.

Requirements

16 credit hours. The student must earn a "B" or better in each course for it to be applied toward the certificate.

Time Limit

Courses must be completed within three years.

Credit toward graduate degree

Up to 12 hours of certificate course credits may be applied to a graduate degree with departmental approval

Standardized tests

GRE testing is not required for admission to the certificate program. However, the GRE is required for admission to the graduate degree program. International students must submit a TOEFL score when English is not the native language. A minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test or 79 on the web-based test is required.
