We offer a variety of workshop formats designed to engage participants and provide lecture and/or practical application of fitness theories, trends, or topics.

Strength Training: The Missing Link to Weight Loss | Sept. 20

Have you heard that doing cardio is the only way to lose weight? If so, you might be missing a vital component to losing weight and a healthier you. Weightlifting should be included in all well-rounded fitness programs, and it doesn't have to be scary! Come learn the various benefits associated with lifting weights and how to add them to your exercise routine.

H.I.I.T vs. Steady-State: Why All Cardio Isn't Equal | Oct. 18

Do you get on a treadmill and you see program names like "rolling hills", "H.I.I.T", or "endurance", and wonder what all of these mean? Through this session we will examine the various ways to perform your cardio workout and the benefits or disadvantages of each method.

Your mobility matters! Working mobility into your exercise plan is important for continued muscular strength and hypertrophy. Learn why mobility in the correct joints will improve your power and performance.

Perfecting Your Powerhouse | Sept. 27

The core is the powerhouse of the body. Core muscles work together to provide support and function for everything from basic daily activities to your highest intensity workouts. Learn how to increase strength and stability in a functional way without the sit-ups and crunches.

Kettlebell Blast | Oct. 12

Put down the barbell and pick up a kettlebell. Give your workout a much needed spark. This clinic will introduce participants to the kettlebell and the benefits of functional training. Learn to use the kettlebell to blast fat quickly and build strength with this total body workout.

Multi Modal Machinery | Oct. 13

Tired of waiting for your favorite machine on the strength floor? This clinic will show you how to use the most versatile piece of equipment we have: the Dual Action Pulley. Participants will learn how to perform a total body workout using a variety of cable attachments and modifications to spice up your workout and avoid the wait!

The Power of Plyos | Nov. 6

Plyomterics training can make or break your gains. This 60-minute clinic will teach you everything you need to know about plyometrics (jump) training. Register in advance at usf.edu/campusrec.

The squat, bench, and deadlift exercises are the foundations of any strength training program. Attend one or all sessions in this series for in-depth knowledge, practice, and modifications on these fundamental movement patterns.
