Spotlight: Stefen Sloane

Stefen Sloane

Stefen Sloane, J.D., CCEP, is the new Associate Compliance Officer for the Office of Compliance & Ethics (OCE) at the University of South Florida (USF). With considerable experience spanning over two decades, Stefen brings a blend of legal expertise and compliance leadership to his role.

At USF, Stefen will perform compliance reviews of the Florida Code of Ethics (FCOE) disclosures and oversee the disclosure, review, and approval processes for outside activity and the employment of related persons (nepotism) in eDisclose.  He will provide oversight for EthicsPoint administration, contribute to the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) Initiative, and share responsibility for Enterprise Risk Management, among other critical duties within the OCE.

Prior to his tenure at USF, Stefen served as an Ethics and Compliance Specialist for Triad National Security at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico. There, he navigated complex compliance landscapes, oversaw matters ranging from conflicts of interest evaluations and financial disclosures, to training initiatives, and investigations into harassment and code of conduct violations.

Stefen’s legal acumen is underscored by his significant experience as a licensed attorney in both the State of Florida and the State of New Mexico. Before his role at Los Alamos, Stefen provided legal counsel to the State of New Mexico for over a decade, serving as an Administrative Prosecutor and Senior Counsel for both the New Mexico Gaming Control Board and the Office of the State Engineer. During this time, he handled a myriad of legal compliance and regulatory matters while representing state interests. Prior to his tenure in New Mexico, Stefen practiced civil litigation in Florida.

A Certified Compliance & Ethics Professional (CCEP), Stefen earned his law degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law and his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Beyond his professional endeavors, Stefen enjoys following his favorite sports teams and sharing hobbies such as soccer, cycling, and chess with his family.
