Workgroup Updates

The Faculty Senate has a number of workgroups focusing on various tasks this year. Here are updates on each of them.

  • Academic Freedom Workgroup
    • Last spring, an ad hoc committee was formed to draft a new academic freedom policy for USF. This proposed policy had been submitted to Interim Provost Eisenberg. The workgroup met with General Council Solis to discuss the proposed policy, and he sent his edits from the conversation back to the committee. The committee is currently discussing these edits to resubmit the proposed policy.
  • BOG Statement of Free Expression Workgroup
    • Last spring, the BOG requested that university senates endorse their Statement of Free Expression. The USF Senate felt that there were some clarifications needs before a vote could be taken on this issue. These questions have now been brought to the Advisory Council of Faculty Senates (ACFS), and the ACFS is working on a coordinated response.

  • Constitution and Bylaws Workgroup
    • When USF consolidated, the faculty governance documentation required a constitution and bylaw review after two years to determine if everything was working as intended. A group has been appointed to begin this work and a survey has been distributed to senate members to gather feedback.
