Logo Usage & Print Approval

USF's brand is expressed by all visual and written messages produced by USF. It is important that all university communications project USF's unique personality through color, style, and message. University Communications and Marketing (UCM) has a collection brand management guidelines, including a writing style guide, color palettes, list of approved fonts, and updated messaging and boilerplates which you should reference before starting a new project to make sure that your design and text fit in well within the USF brand family. For a full list of resources, visit the Brand Management page on the UCM website.

USF CoTA Logo Usage

Because you are a part of the College of The Arts, the correct logo to use in your publications would be the version of the USF logo with "College of The Arts" text (USF CoTA logo for short). The only time when it would be appropriate to use the non-CoTA version of the USF logo would be for promoting an event that is primarily funded by either USF or funded by multiple departments at USF. To obtain a high-resolution copy of the USF CoTA logo files, please email Bryce Womeldurf directly at womeldur@usf.edu.

Listed below is a summary of USF's logo usage guidelines to make sure your print projects go through without any problems. For full guidelines on approved logo usage visit the USF Brand Guidelines page on the UCM website.

  • A clear zone of empty space (proportional to 1/3 of the height of the mark) must surround the logo. This space must not include other graphics, text or busy texture that hinders the legibility of the logo.

  • The minimum height for the "South Florida" letters in the logo is 0.375 inches for traditional media and 36 pixels for digital media.
  • Be sure the logo is used without alterations to color, background, proportion, or drop shadows. In addition, you cannot tilt the logo; screen the logo; stretch the logo; place the logo on a busy background, or place the logo too close to other elements.

Print Approval

To ensure consistency in branding, USF's official policy requires the approval of all print and electronic communications using the USF logo. This includes online publication, electronic documents, printed publications (e.g., posters, flyers, brochures), imprinted items (e.g., staff shirts), or promotional giveaways (e.g., pens, mugs, keychains).

Additionally, faculty and staff of the USF College of The Arts are required to include an official print approval statement with their purchase order request to the CoTA Business Office for any material that will be paid with USF, College or Unit funds. Purchase orders without print approval will not be paid.

Before you send any items to print or distribute any electronic communications, be sure to obtain a written print approval statement. You can email your logo approval request to Bryce Womeldurf at womeldur@usf.edu. Bryce is the appointed representative to review requests for the College of The Arts. In your request email, be sure you to include a digital copy of your design file so he can review it and give you an official print approval email statement. Please note that Bryce does not proofread your text copy; that is the responsibility of the publication's editor.

Other versions of the USF logo must be approved by representatives of that logo's department. For a full list of all University representatives, see the Logo Approval Request page on the University Communications & Marketing website.
