From the Chair
Welcome to the on-line face of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders! The Department offers academic and clinical preparation in the areas of Language, Speech, and Hearing science, American Sign Language, Speech-Language Pathology, and Audiology, as well as the research Ph.D.
We pride ourselves on giving students the strongest possible preparation for careers in clinical service, teaching, and research. The excellence of our Audiology and Speech Pathology graduate programs are reflected in their strong national rankings (currently 17 and 53; U.S. News and World Report 2017). Students in Communication Sciences and Disorders at USF at both the graduate and undergraduate levels have many opportunities to interact with faculty as they teach, conduct research, and provide clinical service both within the department and at dozens of externship sites in the Tampa Bay area. Through these enterprises, the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders provides the full range of pediatric and adult services in speech-language pathology, audiology, and interpreting. In addition, our faculty have collaborations with scientists at other institutions around the country and across the globe. Our global connections also benefit our students, who can participate in study abroad experiences in London, Rome, and São Paulo.
We have a diverse faculty who conduct interdisciplinary and translational research in several areas both within Communication Sciences and Disorders and in related fields, including Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Aging, Neuroscience, and Cognitive Psychology. Our department has strong, established relationships with many premier research and clinical facilities within USF and in the surrounding community, such as USF Health Department of Neurology, USF Health Department of Otolaryngology, USF Health Byrd Alzheimer's Institute, Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, James Haley Veterans' Hospital, and Bay Pines VA Healthcare System.
In recent changes to the department, several world class faculty members have joined our ranks and more changes are yet to come as we embark on a search for a new department chair.
Please contact us if we can assist you in any way. Our faculty and staff are available to answer questions regarding our academic and clinical programs, clinical service delivery, and giving opportunities. We also welcome visits to the department, clinics, and campus.
Thank you and enjoy your visit to our website.
