Students who develop a healthy lifestyle in an environment that supports healthy choices are likely to have the best academic outcomes. The services provided by SHS, in collaboration with the other Wellness USF departments, can help you achieve and maintain this healthy lifestyle, and thereby support your academic success.
At SHS, we strive to provide high-quality healthcare in a manner that is culturally respectful, fiscally responsible, and developmentally appropriate. We combine a wide range of medical, counseling, prevention, and wellness services to help support students so you can be personally and academically healthy and successful.
Our services are also designed to promote and protect the health of our campus community as a whole, so that students benefit from our work whether or not they ever walk through our doors. SHS has a range of public health responsibilities, from administering influenza vaccinations to communicating about disease outbreaks and other potential health concerns that affect our campus.
We support the educational mission of the campus in our outreach efforts, materials, and in our commitment to help students graduate with the skills they need to be stewards of their health care for life. If there are ways that we can improve our services to meet your needs, we hope that you will let us know.
Funding / Health Fee
Most SHS funding comes from the Student Health Fee, which is covered by the paid tuition of enrolled students on the USF Tampa campus. For that reason, there is no charge for many SHS services. This fee also provides for the services of the Counseling Center and Wellness Education. To maintain a financial structure that delivers a wide range of services while keeping costs as low as possible, SHS charges for some products and services, such as most immunizations, specialty care, and equipment, such as crutches. The lab located in the SHS clinic is outsourced; all lab tests incur charges but the funding is not part of the SHS structure. Visit the fees page to learn more about costs and billing.
Respect for Diversity
SHS has an ongoing commitment to build and support a diverse community of patients and employees. We want every patient to feel respected while in our care, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age, veteran status, or country of origin.
