RESEARCH

I have authored and co-authored six books along with several articles and essays on labor and radical history in Italy and the United States, on the relationship between migration and state formation, and on oral history and memory.

My current work explores the intricate connections linking the experiences of migration, work, international class solidarity, multi-ethnic labor organizations, politics and the development of national and ethnic identities. Specifically, by concentrating on global migration I examine the different ways in which Italians abroad reconciled enduring ties with their country of origin and negotiated their relationship with their country of adoption in the period from the Risorgimento to the rise and consolidation of Fascism in Italy.
