Enemas and Opium: Medical Recipes in the 17th Century

Come to learn about curative concoctions (including enemas) involving diverse ingredients like sugar, opium, skulls, cow dung, sulpher, unicorn horns, steel and more with Dr. Benjamin Goldberg in the Department of Humanities and Cultural Studies. Dr. Goldberg will discuss how Duke and Duchess of Newcastle, William and Margaret Cavendish, collected various interesting and arcane medical recipes in the mid 17th century.

HCS Undergrad Madalynn Rice Presentation, Jan. 28, 1 pm

Humanities and Cultural Studies Department undergraduate, Madalynn Rice, will present a paper titled "A Feminist 'Sugar Baby': Feminist Analysis of Kara Walker's A Subtlety," at the Undergraduate Humanities Conference sponsored by the Humanities Institute and the College of Arts and Sciences at USF.
