Mike McDowell is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Instruction at USF. He holds a PhD in Communication from USF and his dissertation, Florida Punks: Punk, Performance, and Community at Gainesville’s Fest uses performance studies to understand a music festival in Gainesville, Florida. His teaching and research interests include popular music studies, popular culture and media, ethnography, sound and listening, critical whiteness studies, and pedagogy. Mike comes to USF after a year as a full-time instructor at Pasco-Hernando State College in Dade City, Florida, where he taught Public Speaking and Music Appreciation.
