Internships and Jobs

Because we recognize the importance of hands on industry training in the community, the Department of Journalism and Digital Communication sponsors for-credit internships at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Past students have pursued internship (undergraduate) and practicum (graduate) experiences at daily newspapers, public relations firms, and other businesses throughout the Tampa Bay Area. We strongly encourage students to take internships as part of their study.

Students, internship providers and JDC faculty cooperate to provide 120 hours of meaningful journalism-related experience over the course of one semester.

In general, internships will be approved if they involve print, radio/television or on-line journalism, media design as it relates to journalism, some aspect of visual journalism, or media relations. In general, internships will NOT be approved if they involve activities relating to disc-jockeying, radio station promotions, filmmaking, fundraising, or with record companies. Internships involving public relations or marketing may be approved on a case-by-case basis.

There are specific internship guidelines for students and internship providers alike. Click the links on the sidebar to find out how to offer or get credit for an undergraduate internship or professional practicum.
