BIO

Eli Murray is a graphics editor at the New York Times, where he uses code to create graphics and crunch numbers on investigations. Before joining the New York Times, Eli spent eight years at the Tampa Bay Times as an investigative reporter specializing in data work. In 2022 he was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting along with his colleagues Corey and Rebecca for their work on the series Poisoned, which shone a spotlight on a Tampa-based lead smelter that was poisoning its workers and the community. Eli grew up in rural Illinois and received an associate degree from Sauk Valley Community College before pursuing a bachelor's in journalism at the University of Illinois. He teaches data visualization at the University of South Florida.
