Other USF Scholarships

There are a number of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students that were established to provide academically talented students, from diverse backgrounds, the opportunity to study at the University of South Florida.

Scholarship award amounts vary, and depend upon available funding.

The application cycle for 2023-24 will open Nov 2022. All scholarship applicants must have a FAFSA form on file with financial aid. The financial aid website lists all available scholarships including those administered by IBL. Students should apply for available scholarships online through Financial Aid.


AFA/IBL HIV/AIDS Research and Participation Fund

The fund will support graduate student research projects on HIV/AIDS in Africa and the African Diaspora (including Caribbean and the US) with a particular emphasis on students earning the Africana Studies certificate in Diaspora Health. Funds will support student travel and/or other research related activities.

Africana Studies Travel Scholarship Fund

To provide travel scholarships to students participating in overseas study program. Scholarship criteria: full or part time students, all academic levels, Africana Studies major, College of Arts and Sciences, Tampa Campus.

JUEL HICKMAN SHANNON SMITH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP

To support full-time undergraduate students, pursuing a major in Africana Studies (Institute of Black Life/Center for Africa) or a major in Elementary Education in the College of Education on the Tampa campus. Preference will be given to African Americans and female students.

Thaddeus Broward Ryan Endowment in Latin America & Caribbean Studies

To support scholarships for full or part-time graduate students, pursuing a major in Latin American and Caribbean Studies in the College of Arts & Sciences on the Tampa campus. This scholarship is based on merit and can be awarded 2 semesters. Preference will be given to second year graduate students with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Students will submit a 500 word essay illustrating why they are passionate about the field of Latin American and Caribbean Studies and why they are pursuing this degree. They should include 2 letters of recommendation from their professors.
