Anol Bhattacherjee ("Dr. B") is a professor of artificial intelligence and business analytics, Exide Professor, and the academic director of the MS-AIBA program at the University of South Florida.
He has authored about 150 refereed publications, including 12 papers in the Financial Times, 50 journals (the top 50 journals in business research) and 7 papers in MIS Quarterly (the No. 1 ranked journal in his discipline). He has also served on the editorial boards of MIS Quarterly and the Journal of the AIS for many years. A 2021 Stanford University study ranked him as No. 12 in the world in career-wide research impact in the information systems discipline, and No. 8 for 2020. He has over 45,000 citations on Google Scholar, and his 2001 MIS Quarterly paper on technology discontinuance, cited over 13,000 times, is credited with creating a new stream of research in the information systems literature.
Bhattacherjee also wrote a free book on research methods titled Social Science Research: Principles, Methods, and Practices that has been downloaded over 2 million times from 229 countries on six continents, used at over 10,000 institutions (including universities like the University of Oxford, the University of Cambridge, and Harvard, and the U.S. Army), and translated into seven languages. He was the principal investigator or co-PI in U.S. federal grants exceeding $750,000. He received many awards and honors for his research, including the Stafford Beer Medal by the Operational Research Society, UK and the Fulbright-Nehru Distinguished Chair by the United States Department of State in 2019. In 2023, an explanatory artificial intelligence solution for mental health screening developed by his team won the first-place award at the prestigious Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineering (IISE) Cup Competition, beating out 75 teams from Amazon, France, and Germany.
Bhattacherjee earned a PhD and an MBA from the University of Houston and master's and bachelor's degrees from the Indian Institute of Technology. He had prior faculty appointments at Arizona State University and the University of Colorado at Denver and served as the Fulbright-Nehru Distinguished Chair in 2019 (at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur) and Fulbright Senior Scholar in 2012 (at ESPRIT, Tunisia).
