USF Launches Online Master's Degree in Management Information Systems

Tampa, FL (October 25, 2012) — USF has launched a fully online Master of Science in Management Information Systems degree program, focusing on advanced analytic technologies, business intelligence, and big data. With decades of experience preparing graduates for careers in the technology industry, USF has developed this new accessible online format to help professionals advance their education for career success. The degree is being offered through a partnership between USF's Muma College of Business and University College.

"Companies would prefer hiring students from our master's program focusing on business intelligence because of the coverage this program offers to students to pick up skills that are highly in demand today," said Kaushal Chari, chair of USF's Information Systems Decision Sciences Department. "Based on our track record, we are confident we will be able to place graduates of this online program in top companies worldwide."

The classes, which begin March 2013, will be taught by USF's award-winning faculty from the Information Systems Decision Sciences Department at the Muma College of Business. By mirroring the rigorous curriculum of the MIS on-campus program from the Muma College of Business, this program has been translated to a highly interactive web-based learning platform. The experience goes beyond traditional lectures, and encourages interactions with a cohort of peers from around the world.

Students will build a professional network and hone their communication skills, while learning firsthand how industry leaders operate.

"There is demand for students who know what the field is, who know what the techniques are, and essentially can think about the entire spectrum, who are not just very narrow in one field and don't know the context in which this tool can be used," said Associate Professor Balaji Padmanabhan. "I think that's what our program offers."

The program is open for applicants with a January 31, 2013 deadline. Interested I.T. professionals are encouraged to visit uc.usf.edu/mis to review admissions criteria and submit their application. Questions about the program can be directed to gradseries@usf.edu or by phone through the toll-free number, 1-855-756-3681. A student success specialist will be on hand to assist with questions.
