Awareness Months
On this page we will highlight national awareness months related to mental health and substance use/misuse.
MAY is Mental Health Awareness Month
Every May, communities across the country recognize Mental Health Awareness Month, a national observance led by organizations like Mental Health America and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Since its founding in 1949, this month has served as a powerful reminder that mental health is an essential part of overall well-being and that support, understanding, and access to care can change lives.
Mental health challenges are more common than many realize, affecting individuals and families in every community. Awareness efforts this month focus on reducing stigma, encouraging open conversations, and helping people recognize the signs when they or someone they care about may need support. Just as we prioritize physical health, it’s important to check in on our emotional and mental well-being, too.
Mental health affects us all. This month and every month, we are reminded that reaching out is a sign of strength, and support is always within reach. By working together to raise awareness and foster understanding, we can build a healthier, more connected community.
