Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) Coordinating Center

Mission & Goals

Mission of the UTC Coordinating Center

The mission of the Center is to promote and disseminate the Universal Treatment Curriculum (UTC) to Universities/Colleges and related practitioners in North America who are interested in, or already have, academic or professional training programs in addiction science. Programs who are interested in the curriculum can become Education Providers and use the materials at no cost to them. This is directly in line with INL's International Demand Reduction Program goal of establishing self-sustained drug prevention, education, and treatment programs as well as the goals of the Drug Advisory Programme (DAP) under the Colombo Plan.

Strategic Goals

  • Determine what academic addiction science programs currently exist in North America and gather data about these programs.
  • Reach out to these programs to educate them about the UTC and disseminate it as educational institutions are interested.
  • Create materials and a process for a formal follow up evaluation for all participants of the UTC training courses.
  • Provide a framework for mentorship activities to assist those who have participated in the UTC Basic Level training to bring the competencies into their work.
  • Develop and maintain a network among North American Universities with interest in addiction studies programs.
