Students spread holiday cheer through note drive for local foster home

More than 30 students from Mentorship and Support in Communication Sciences and Disorders and USF Rotaract participated in the drive, creating individualized holiday cards for the children and staff of Joshua House.

Two USF student organizations — Mentorship and Support in Communication Sciences and Disorders (MSCSD) and USF Rotaract, a service-based student organization that helps organize and facilitate service events, local and global, for students to participate in — joined forces this semester to host a holiday note drive benefiting Joshua House, a local foster home that supports abandoned, abused and neglected children.

Holiday cards and goodie bags aligned on a table

Goodie bags and holiday cards were created by both organizations for the children and staff of Joshua House.

More than 30 students from the two organizations participated in the drive, creating individualized holiday cards for the children and staff of Joshua House. Officers from both clubs also assembled goodie bags that included the handmade cards, stickers and bracelets.

MSCSD President Nivia Perez-Bracho and USF Rotaract Project Chair Brooke Petersen led the initiative, aiming to give back to the Tampa Bay community in a meaningful way. Both students will graduate this December with their bachelor’s degrees in language, speech and hearing sciences.

The event served as a heartfelt way to close out the semester, and the organizations plan to make the holiday note drive an annual tradition.
