For over a decade, the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD) at the University of South Florida has partnered with the Delta Gamma sorority for USF's Trick or Treat with the Greeks — a Halloween-themed event open to the USF community and surrounding areas.

A sign used during a previous year that not only aligned with the overall theme that Delta Gamma selected but assisted in identifying sensory sensitivities.
The annual event, held at the USF Greek Village Courtyard and organized by the USF Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, offers a fun, family-friendly evening with games, music, and candy for children and their families. However, for individuals with sensory sensitivities, such environments can quickly become overwhelming.
That's where CARD steps in.
Through its ongoing collaboration with Delta Gamma, CARD provides autism-focused training, sensory tools, and resources to create an inclusive experience for all participants. Sorority members receive hands-on guidance to better understand autism and implement best practices for supporting individuals and families with sensory sensitivities.
"The partnership between Delta Gamma and CARD has provided sisters with the opportunity to understand autism and sensory needs," said Emilia Olday, vice president of Delta Gamma Panhellenic. "Trick or Treat with the Greeks is a fun environment to spend time with our new friends while learning more about one another."
A key feature of the partnership is Delta Gamma's Anchored Calm Corner — a designated sensory-friendly space located in the sorority’s chapter room. Created in collaboration with CARD, the space offers a quiet retreat for children and families who may need a break from the crowd or music.

Liz Burke, CARD consultant, helps a child at previous Trick-or-Treat with Greeks event.
"CARD is proud to help Delta Gamma provide a sensory-friendly environment inside their chapter room," said Christine Rover, assistant program director of CARD and a Delta Gamma alumna. "The sisters have received autism-friendly training and are excited to once again host the Anchored Calm Corner. CARD will also supply fidgets and sensory tools to help make the evening more accessible for everyone."
In addition to training, CARD offers non-candy treats, sensory-friendly activities, and educational resources for families, including Trick or Treat Tip Sheets and nonverbal communication tags for children who are minimally verbal or non-speaking.
This year’s Trick or Treat with the Greeks will take place on Thursday, Oct. 30, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the USF Greek Village Courtyard. The event is open to the public.
