Teacher Preparation for Elementary, Middle and High Schools

Students may pursue a two-year program of study in physical education to qualify for state of Florida initial teacher certification in teaching Physical Education for students in Kindergarten through 12th grade.

Students begin the program at the start of their junior year. The program requires mandatory attendance during the summer session between the junior and senior years. Students enter during Fall Semester of each year only, and proceed through the program in cohorts.

To remain enrolled in the Physical Education program, students are required to complete all required courses each semester with a grade of "C-" or better in order to progress to the next semester. Students who do not complete the requirements will be dismissed from the program and may re-apply for admission to the next cohort.

In addition to applying to the University, all students must apply directly to the Physical Education Department and meet the admission criteria for the College of Education.

NOTE: Students intending to be employed in public School settings should be aware of the College of Education's policy on arrests and convictions.
