Policies

COVID POLICIES

During the pandemic, new safety policies have been instituted by 1) USF administration and 2) Recreation & Wellness.  These policies are necessary to ensure the safety of our participants and employees.

Read our COVID policies before using our facilities, pools, fields, and parks.

Cardio Equipment Policies

  1. During peak hours, (Monday – Friday, 5 – 9 p.m.) use of cardio equipment is limited to 30 minutes per machine.
  2. All footwear must be dry and free of dirt before participating.
  3. Use Gym Wipes to thoroughly clean equipment before and after each use.

Conduct Standards & Policies

  1. All Recreation & Wellness users must present a current, valid USF ID card.
  2. Using false identification is a violation of the USF Student Code of Conduct. Individuals who present false identification or whose ID is presented by another person may forfeit Recreation & Wellness privileges. The fraudulent ID will be confiscated and destroyed; the owner will have to obtain a new ID through the card center.
  3. Entrance to Recreation & Wellness facilities is only allowed through the access control area of the Welcome Desk. Anyone found to have entered the facilities through any other means will be asked to leave the premises and further disciplinary action may be taken.
  4. Recreation & Wellness reserves the right to refuse admittance to anyone.
  5. All policies outlined in the University of South Florida Student Code of Conduct will be enforced.
  6. All Recreation & Wellness users are expected to be responsible, courteous, and safety conscious at all times. Behavior such as criminal activity, disorderly conduct, sexual harassment, recklessness, abuse or misuse of the facility and its equipment, or disregard for Recreation & Wellness policies and staff will not be tolerated. Violators will be required to leave the facility and may be subject to disciplinary action up to and including temporary or permanent revocation of Recreation & Wellness access. Fee-paying members who have their access revoked will not have any portion of their fees refunded.
  7. Recreation & Wellness is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  8. Use of personal bicycles, skateboards, roller skates, or roller blades is prohibited inside all Recreation & Wellness facilities. Personal bicycles are not permitted to be stored anywhere within Recreation & Wellness facilities (with the exception of Outdoor Recreation Bike Shop).
  9. Pets are not permitted inside the facilities, except approved service animals.
  10. Participants may not use or be under the influence of alcohol or illicit drugs in Recreation and Wellness facilities.
  11. Tobacco use of any kind is prohibited inside the facilities.
  12. Food is restricted to the lobby or waiting area.
  13. Chewing gum is prohibited in all areas of Recreation & Wellness facilities.
  14. Only spill-proof water bottles are allowed inside the facilities.
  15. Standing on or leaning over railings is prohibited.
  16. Participants should report malfunctioning lights, temperature fluctuations, or any other maintenance concerns to the on-site Recreation & Wellness employee.
  17. Any injuries or possible risk must be reported to the Recreation & Wellness Staff on duty immediately.
  18. Signage or flyers of any type must be approved prior to posting.
  19. Closed-toe, non-marking athletic shoes and shirts are required at all times, except in designated rooms and areas.
  20. Personal headsets are welcome, but the use of radios/portable stereos or amplified sound is not permitted in any Recreation & Wellness facility without prior approval.
  21. Picture taking and/or video recording is only permissible with written authorization from the Department of Recreation & Wellness administrative staff using this form. Photographs may be taken of informal recreation and programs by the Department of Recreation & Wellness or USF Communications & Marketing. These photographs are used for promotional purposes. If you prefer not to be photographed, please notify the photographer.

Cycling Studio Policies

  1. Participants are required to bring a clean towel for personal use.
  2. Participants are required to bring a spill-proof water bottle.
  3. Cycling shoes are not permitted outside of the Cycling Studio.
  4. Participants must thoroughly clean equipment before and after each use.

Equipment Policies

Note:  Equipment check-out is currently not available due to the pandemic.

  1. Equipment checkout is free to current USF students and Recreation & Wellness Members with a valid USF ID.
  2. Guests are not allowed to check out equipment or reserve courts.
  3. Equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  4. All equipment must be returned the same day it was checked out. This excludes overnight equipment, which is only available for some items.
  5. Recreation & Wellness is not responsible for any lost or damaged equipment stored at the Equipment Desk.
  6. Participants are responsible for lost or damaged equipment. If equipment is not returned within a week of being checked out, it will be considered lost and the participant will be responsible for the replacement cost of the equipment. Replacement or repair cost for damaged equipment is at the discretion of the Recreation & Wellness Staff.
  7. Bicycles and various camping equipment is available for check out through the Outdoor Resource Center on the Lower Level of the Campus Recreation Center (REC).

Fitness – General Policies

  1. Appropriate athletic attire and closed-toed footwear is required to utilize Recreation & Wellness facilities . 
  2. Clean towels are highly encouraged for personal use.
  3. Thoroughly clean equipment before and after each use using provided Gym Wipes.
  4. Use of personal equipment (e.g. bands, attachments, bars) is not permitted. A variety of equipment is available at the Equipment Checkout Desk at the REC with your USF ID. Return Equipment Checkout items promptly after use.
  5. Cell phone use is not permitted while using equipment.
  6. Bags of any kind (e.g. backpacks, equipment/workout bags, and purses) are not permitted in the fitness areas.
  7. Complimentary day-use lockers are available on the fitness floors and in the student locker rooms. Recreation & Wellness is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items.
  8. Food, chewing gum, and tobacco use of any kind is not permitted in any Fitness area. Only spill-proof water bottles are permitted in fitness areas, including the Group Fitness studios.
  9. Participants are required to use equipment for its intended purposes and maintain safety at all times.
  10. Personal training, or any fitness consultation, by anyone other than a certified personal trainer or fitness staff employed by Recreation & Wellness, while on shift, is strictly prohibited.
  11. Report any accidents, injuries, or broken equipment immediately to the Fitness Staff on duty.
  12. Personal items should be stored in lockers or cubbies.
  13. Participants are required to abide by all posted policies and staff member directions.

Fitness – Group Fitness Policies

NOTE: All Recreation & Wellness policies apply.

  1. Register for group fitness classes online or using the kiosks in the lobby of the Campus Recreation Center. Registration opens 25 hours prior to the advertised start time of the class. Registration information can be found here. Log in to the online member portal utilizing your USF Net ID and password.
  2. Participants must cancel any registration for a group fitness class they can no longer attend. Cancellation must occur at least 15 minutes prior to the advertised start time of the class. This is to allow stand by and waitlisted participants to join the class. 
  3. Failure to arrive on time for three or more group fitness classes without properly cancelling will result in a $5 no show fee and a hold being placed on participant's student account.
  4. All group fitness classes begin promptly at the advertised start time and studio doors are locked. For your safety and the enjoyment of all participants, anyone arriving late (after the advertised start time) to a group fitness class will not be permitted to enter the studio. Arriving late to a class will result in a no show.
  5. Group fitness participants must check in with the instructor or fitness staff prior to entering the studio for a group fitness class. Participants that do not arrive at least 5 minutes early will be marked as a no show and standby participants will be allowed in class.
  6. Closed-toe athletic shoes that are dry and free of dirt are required unless otherwise noted (e.g. yoga). Cycle shoes are not permitted outside of the Cycle Studio.
  7. Participants are required to thoroughly clean equipment (e.g. mats, bikes, etc.) before and after each use.
  8. Only spill-proof water bottles are permitted in the group fitness studios.
  9. Food is not permitted in the group fitness studios.
  10. Equipment provided during classes may not be removed from the group fitness studios.
  11. Personal items should be stored in lockers or cubbies.
  12. Participant displaying inappropriate behavior or compromising the safety and/or format of the class may be dismissed from the class.

Fitness – Strength Floor Policies

  1. Maintain control of weights at all times. User is responsible for ensuring that control can be maintained throughout entire exercise.
  2. Use of collars is required on barbells at all times.
  3. Return all equipment and weights to their proper locations. It is the responsibility of the user to rack all weights at the completion of exercise.
  4. Weight belts are not permitted on exercise equipment where buckles make contact with upholstery.
  5. Misuse of equipment, personal misconduct, yelling, or profanity is not permitted.
  6. Deadlifts are only permitted inside the Power Racks. Weights cannot be dropped.
  7. Chalk (including liquid chalk) is not permitted in Fitness areas.
  8. The Quick Circuit area (only located in the REC) shall be utilized in a circuit-style manner during peak hours (5 – 9 p.m.). Monopolization of a machine is not permitted.

Guest Policies

COVID Update:  To ensure the safety of our students and members, guests are not currently allowed at the REC or FIT.  Guests can visit Riverfront Park only when accompanied by an individual with a valid RecWell ID.

Gymnasium Policies

All our indoor gymnasiums are currently closed to the public.  

Lost and Found policy

The Lost and Found within the REC is located at the Equipment Room, which is on the first floor of the building.

Any items left unattended will be retrieved and turned in to Lost and Found when: the building closes or a Recreation & Wellness staff member deems the item(s) unattended for a reasonable amount of time.

Items from Lost and Found across all Recreation & Wellness facilities are bagged up every two weeks and then donated to a local charity one week after being bagged. If you believe you may have an item in Lost and Found that you would like to retrieve please visit the Equipment Room or call 813-974-3608 to contact the Equipment Room.

Volleyball or Badminton Court Policy

Currently closed.

Pool Policies

  1. Swimming is not permitted without the presence of a Recreation & Wellness Lifeguard.
  2. Lifeguards reserve the right to remove patrons from the pool and restrict the use of deep-water area to people according to swimming ability.
  3. Organizations and programs must reserve the pool prior to use.
  4. Swimmers must wear appropriate attire (all infants must wear an approved swimming diaper).
  5. Children under 16 years of age or children using flotation devices must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
  6. Glass containers, alcoholic beverages, food, drinks or gum are NOT permitted in the pool area.
  7. No running, wrestling, or horseplay in pool area.
  8. No bicycles, skateboards, or roller skates are permitted in the pool area.
  9. No animals (except service animals registered with Students with Disabilities Services) are allowed onto the pool deck or into the locker rooms.
  10. No smoking.
  11. No diving.
  12. Pool Hours are posted near the entrance doors to the pool.

Failure to adhere to any of the policies listed may result in immediate removal from the pool area and could result in denial of pool access in the future. Lifeguards have the right to remove patrons from the pool area as they deem fit.

Outdoor Facility Policies

  1. All Recreation & Wellness General Policies outlined in the Conduct Standards & Policies will be enforced.
  2. All users must create a reservation for open recreation at our outdoor facilities through IMLeagues.com.
  3. All users must present a current, valid USF ID card, Covid Pass, and field reservation to use our outdoor facilities.
  4. USF requires wearing face coverings in outdoor public spaces on campus when in the presence of others.
  5. No group reservations are available at this time and individual fields are limited to 10 participants at a time. All users must have an individual reservation.
  6. Pets are not permitted at any outdoor facility.
  7. Closed toe shoes are required to participate in physical activity at any outdoor facility.
  8. Glass bottles are not permitted at any outdoor facility.
  9. All chained equipment is used for programmed Recreation & Wellness activities only. Any tampering with this equipment will be considered vandalism.All users must present a current, valid USF ID card to use outdoor facilities if requested by Recreation & Wellness Staff Member or University Police Department.

Quick Circuit Guidelines

  1. Before beginning, complete a 5 to 10 minute warm-up activity.
  2. Begin on any machine.
  3. The circuit is designed for participants to move clockwise and complete exercises on each machine.
  4. On each machine, perform one set of 10 to 15 repetitions with a weight that is challenging and allows for safe completion of each set.
  5. With approximately 30 seconds in between each exercise, thoroughly clean the machine, move to the next machine, and determine the proper machine settings.
  6. Do not use machines out of order or perform consecutive sets on one machine.

Racquetball, Handball, and Squash Court Policies

Currently closed.

USF Riverfront Park Pavilion Policies

  1. No alcoholic beverages or illegal drugs are permitted at Riverfront Park at any time.
  2. No glass bottles may be used at Riverfront Park.
  3. Your group is responsible for cleaning up the pavilion area after use. Please place recyclable material and trash in the proper receptacles.
  4. Upon arrival and departure, please check in and out at the boathouse. Before leaving, a staff member will review the pavilion area. Failure to check out may result in forfeiture of any Riverfront Park reservation requests in the future. For reservations occurring while the boathouse is closed, please be sure to keep a copy of the reservation confirmation email at the pavilion with the group.
  5. Dogs must be leashed at all times. Owners must carry a bag to clean up after the dog.
  6. No vehicles will be allowed to drive or park by the pavilions. Groups with catering concerns may make prior arrangements with the Riverfront Park supervisor at the boathouse or by calling (813) 987-6840. No loud music will be tolerated at the pavilion area. The Riverfront Park staff determines when music is too loud.
  7. Absolutely no water balloons and no "silly string".
  8. Challenge course activities may not be used without challenge course staff supervision.
  9. Canoeing is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Large groups can make arrangements in advance to be billed for boat rentals after their event. Please contact (813) 974-9376.
