Tenure & Promotion

Overview

The University of South Florida, each college, and schools & departments within each college each has their own respective set of requirements and guidelines for tenure and promotion of faculty members. Tenure-track faculty should become familiar with these complementary requirements to be informed of the path they must take to become a tenured professor.

In addition to the University, the College of Arts and Sciences has also developed its own complementary set of Tenure & Promotion Guidelines to reflect the College's mission, vision, and expectations for faculty. Faculty with appointments in the Humanities within the College of Arts and Sciences are also expected to meet guidelines for research expectations to earn tenure.

This process is to ensure that USF faculty members are providing the highest level of educational instruction to students, while conducting relevant research into their respective fields, allowing them to utilize the newest techniques in their classrooms and rewarding such outstanding work by granting such faculty tenured positions.
