He was named among the list of the most productive scholars over the past decade, in terms of publications, in the premier marketing journals and the premier American Marketing Association marketing journals.

  • Sunil Mithas, USF World Class Scholar and Professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, was one of 22 scientists awarded a VAIBHAV fellowship through the Indian government’s Department of Science and Technology. The program will allow Mithas to collaborate on a management project at the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee. The award was featured in The Hindu, the Economic Times, and The Times of India.
  • Matthew (Gunsu) Son, an assistant professor in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, received the ASX Award for Best Paper in Derivatives from the Australasian Finance & Banking Conference.

Mithas was among 11 scholars selected for the 2023 AIS Fellow Award, which he accepted on Dec. 11 at the 2023 International Conference on Information Systems held in Hyderabad, India.

August 2023

  • Seckin Ozkul, an assistant professor of instruction and the director of the USF Supply Chain Innovation Lab, was reappointed to serve on the Florida Freight Advisory Committee led by the Florida Department of Transportation. The committee advises the state on freight-related priorities, issues, projects, and funding needs.
  • Clinton Daniel, an associate professor of instruction in the School of Information Systems and Management, attended the Florida Association for Career and Technical Education Conference in Orlando where he presented “The Modernization of Digital Information Technology” project.
  • Janelle Wells, an associate professor in the USF Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management program, was named an associate member of the College Athletic Business Management Association.
  • Joni Jones, the Muma College of Business campus dean on the Sarasota-Manatee campus and an associate professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, was highlighted in Sarasota Magazine’s Women of Influence 2023 feature. The story recognizes her impact and contributions to the University of South Florida.
  • Carol Osborne, a senior instructor in the School of Marketing and Innovation and the director of the Zimmerman Advertising Program, was quoted in a Reuters news story about the Barbie buzz for toymaker Mattel.  
  • Cihan Cobanoglu, dean of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, received the 2023 McCool Breakthrough Award from the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education. The award recognizes Cobanoglu’s exceptional contributions to the hospitality industry, particularly for innovative initiatives.  
  • Loran Jarrett, as assistant professor of instruction in the School of Marketing and Innovation, has the article “Is a DBA the new MBA?” published in the Tampa Bay Business and Wealth magazine.
  • Robert Tiller, an assistant professor of instruction in the Muma College of Business, was featured in a “Expert Tips on Life Insurance” column in moneygeek.com and in a “Credit Scores – for Dinners and More” column in wallethub.com.
  • Dipayan Biswas, the Frank Harvey Endowed Professor of Marketing at the School of Marketing and Innovation, was featured in an article in the Community Research and Development Information Service about research related to caffeine’s effects on shoppers titled “Put down that coffee, your wallet will thank you.”
  • Thomas Hall, a DBA student, presented “Rural Talent Management Strategies” at the 85th Annual Meeting of the Rural Sociological Society at the University of Vermont in August 2023.

July 2023

  • Matthew Mullarkey, director of the DBA program and a professor of instruction in the School of Information Systems and Management, received the Best Associate Editor Award at the 31st European Conference on Information Systems in Kristiansand, Norway.
  • Randy Dumm has been appointed the new director of the Baldwin Risk Partners School of Risk Management and Insurance at the USF Muma College of Business. Dumm comes to USF from Temple University where he served as the deputy department chair for risk, insurance, and healthcare management. He also serves as president of the American Risk and Insurance Association.
  • Dipayan Biswas, a marketing and business professor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was quoted in a story on digital tipping in The Jerusalem Post.
  • Triparna de Vreede, an associate director in the School of Information Systems and Management, was featured in a story about the $8.5 million PHEARLESS public health grant initiative in the Tampa Bay Business Journal.
  • Jennifer Cainas, the associate dean for financial management and undergraduate programs, was selected to receive the 2023 Outstanding Faculty Advisor award for Beta Alpha Psi, the international honor society for accounting, finance and information systems students. She will be honored at the BAP annual meeting and receive a $5,000 cash award from RSM US LLP for the extraordinary achievements as faculty advisor for USF's Delta Gamma chapter.

June 2023

  • Janelle Wells, an associate professor in the USF Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management program, had the article “Essential HR upgrades are needed for workplace diversity, accountability” published in Sports Business Journal.
  • Dipayan Biswas, the Frank Harvey Endowed Professor of Marketing, was quoted in the NBC10Boston news story, “Tipping Turmoil: Survey Founds Some Feel Pressured by Changed Expectations,” and in the Tampa Bay Times story “Could this Tampa Publix be a blueprint for future stores?” 
  • Seckin Ozkul, director of the Supply Chain Innovation Lab and an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was elected Chair of the Standing Committee on Freight Transportation Economics and Regulation for the Transportation Research Board within the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. 
  • Anol Bhattacherjee, a professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, and his team took first place in the 2023 IISE Cup Competition. The team won gold with their research designing an X-ray-type image for mapping common mental disorders to screen patients or monitor treatment. 
  • James Stock, a Distinguished University Professor at USF and co-director of the Monica Wooden Center for Supply Chain Management & Sustainability, co-authored the article “Best practices in logistics sustainability Part 2: A look at packaging, reverse logistics, and technology,” in the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals’ Supply Chain [Quarterly]
  • Rob Hooker, an associate professor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was featured in a, WFTS-Tampa story on inflation, prices, and supply chain impacts heading into summer.
  • Triparna de Vreede, associate director of that School of Information Systems and Management, was quoted in a story about the $8.5 million PHEARLESS public health leadership initiative in Philanthropy News Digest.

  • Lei Wedge, an associate professor in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, was quoted in the article “Tampa Bay home sales are down. Why are real estate prices still rising?” in the Tampa Bay Times
  • Jong Chool Park, an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, received the Spring 2023 Advisory Council Outstanding Teaching Award at the Beta Alpha Psi Scholarship Banquet.
  • Dipayan Biswas, the Frank Harvey Endowed Professor of Marketing at the School of Marketing and Innovation, was featured in the Harvard Business Review’s May-June print edition in an article about research related to caffeine’s effects on shoppers. He was also quoted in the story “Don’t Feel Gratuity Guilt: Tips to Help You Know Who, How Much to Tip” which ran in nbcconnecticut.com.
  • Denise Gelia, an office manager at the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, received the Consistent Quality Award from the Muma College of Business.
  • Lorie Briggs, the former director of communications and marketing at the Muma College of Business, received the Above and Beyond Award from the Muma College of Business.
  • Angelica Foley, an academic services administrator with the Muma College of Business on the St. Petersburg campus, received the Organizational Well-being Award.
  • Greg Manning, a business consultant with the Florida SBDC at USF, received the 2023 Performance Excellence Award. Manning covers four rural counties and saw 332 unique clients. After Hurricane Ian, he worked three mobile Business Recovery Centers and provided 160 hours of disaster capital access consulting.
  • Kristene Manning, a business manager at the Florida SBDC at USF, received the 2023 Ambassador of the Year Award.

April 2023

  • Russell Clayton, an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was named the 2021-2022 Muma Outstanding Teaching Award honoree. He was recognized for his dedication, innovation, and excellence in teaching at the Muma College of Business.
  • Po-Lin Wang, an assistant professor in the Baldwin Risk Partners School of Risk Management and Insurance, co-authored the article “Mortality postponement and compression at older ages in human cohorts,” that was published in PLOS ONE. 
  • Lei Wedge, an associate professor in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, was featured in a Fox-13 news story about pending state legislation to incentivize affordable housing.
  • Kelly Cowart, an associate professor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was quoted in a CH Media news story about Swiss chocolatier Lindt’s effort to increase its racial diversity in advertising and marketing.
  • Andy Hafer, the executive director for USF’s Center for Entrepreneurship, was featured in a Tampa Bay Business Journal news story about his new role at the Muma College of Business.

  • Dezhi (Denny) Yin, as associate professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, was featured in a Wall Street Journal article titled “Customer Service With a Smile? Not When a Chatbot is Involved.” 
  • Jennifer Cainas, an associate dean for financial management and undergraduate programs and a professor of instruction in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, participated in the 2023 AICPA CGMA Virtual Teaching Symposium where she shared tips for introducing the accounting profession in introductory accounting classes.
  • Doreen MacAulay, a professor of instruction in the School of Information Systems and Management, was the guest speaker for a talk on embracing equity through emotional intelligence on International Women’s Day and a panelist in a webinar series on researching cultural awareness in tourism.
  • Steven C. Currall, a professor in the School of Information Systems and Management and former USF president, wrote an op-ed in The Hill titled “We must sustain America’s Big Tech engines of innovation.” 
  • Martina Schmidt, a professor of instruction of finance in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance on the St. Petersburg campus, was interviewed for a Wallethub Ask the Experts blog post on applying for credit cards with no credit check for new applicants.

  • Hemant Merchant, a professor of global business in the School of Marketing and Innovation, received a $20,000 USF-wide internal research grant and a $10,000 cross-campus research grant sponsored by USF St. Petersburg. 
  • Loran Jarrett, an assistant professor of instruction in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was named a distinguished finalist for the 2023 USF Innovation in Online Design and Teaching Award. The award commends exceptional online teaching practices and the design, development, and delivery of student-centered online courses.
  • Kerry Walsh, an associate instructor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, and Carol Osborne, a senior instructor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, received Apple Polishing awards from two USF Ambassadors. The awards recognize USF faculty or staff who have had a significant impact on their lives beyond the classroom.

  • Michelle Harrolle, director of the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management program, and Janelle Wells, an associate professor in the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management program, were selected as Sports Business Journal’s Leaders in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion as part of the publication’s All-in series. The journal identified leaders at sports-related organizations who are driving change in sports and society. 
  • Sunil Mithas, a World Class Scholar and professor, was a featured researcher at the third edition of the Online International Research colloquium held Feb. 20-25 by the Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development. The colloquium was titled “Digitization, AI, Sustainability and Global Disruptions: A Way Forward,” and Mithas addressed digital intelligence in the age of artificial intelligence.

  • Chekitan S. Dev, the Singapore Tourism Distinguished Professor at Cornell University's SC Johnson College of Business in the Nolan School of Hotel Administration, is serving as a Distinguished Visiting Research Fellow at the USF Muma College of Business for the spring 2022 term. Starting in 2023, he will return to USF each spring term as a Distinguished Research Fellow.

  • Doug Meyn is the program director of the Bellini Center for Talent Development. Meyn served as a career coach in USF’s Career Services for seven years.

The journal publishes research in organizational behavior, organizational psychology, and human cognition, judgment, and decision-making.
  • Triparna De Vreede, the associate chair of the School of Information Systems and Management, was interviewed in a Miami Herald story about the surge of online employee monitoring.
  • Russell Clayton, an instructor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was quoted in a Telegraph Magazine article about whether it’s worth it to take a pay cut and change careers in 2022.
  • Lin Jiang, assistant professor of entrepreneurship, was featured on a Fox13 Tampa Bay news segment about how USF students are using NASA patents to develop new business ideas.
  • Han Reichgelt, a professor of information systems and decision sciences in the School of Information Systems and Management on the St. Petersburg campus and director of the college’s Institute for Data Analytics and Visualization, served as a co-principal investigator on a research team examining the impact of systemic racism in the city of St. Petersburg. The team completed its research and the five recommended action steps were approved by the city council in December.

December 2021

  • Faizan Ali, associate professor in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, was the invited keynote speaker for the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program. Ali spoke to a delegation from Pakistan about tourism in that country. Ali also had an article published in ScienceDirect on the perceived risks related to eating edible insects and live seafood in restaurants.
  • Lin Jiang, assistant professor in entrepreneurship, was quoted in an 83 Degrees article about using NASA patents in a Strategic Market Assessment course through NASA’s T2U program.
  • Sayonara Jones is the unit HR administrator at the Muma College of Business.
  • Nicole Hess joined the School of Marketing and Innovation at the Muma College of Business as an assistant professor. She teaches digital marketing and services marketing at the undergraduate level on the Sarasota-Manatee campus.
  • Tony Kong, an associate professor in the School of Information Systems, joined St. Anthony’s Hospital Board of Trustees. Kong was also featured in an episode on trust in negotiations as part of the “I’m Glad I Know That Now!” podcast series.
  • Irwin Jay Katz received the 2020 Journal of Legal Tax Research Best Paper Award for "Instilling Subpart F with Horizontal Equity." The award will be presented at the 2022 American Taxation Association Midyear Meeting in February.

  • Martina Schmidt, a finance instructor in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, was quoted in a Tampa Bay Times story about instant buyers, or "iBuyers" of real estate. She also was among a panel of industry experts answering readers’ questions for CreditDonkey.
  • Rob Hooker, associate professor in the School of Marketing and Sales Innovation, was interviewed by ABC Action News, on how supply chain issues are affecting the holiday shopping season.
  • Murad Antia, an instructor in the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance, wrote a guest column in the Tampa Bay Times titled, "What Tom Hanks and `Cast Away' can teach us about inflation, immigration and the American economy." The Nov. 4 episode, titled "Tampa Bay Pro Sports Impact on Economics," explored the connections between the success of Tampa Bay area sports franchises and the economies of our region.

  • Tony Kong, associate professor in the School of Information Systems and Management will join the editorial review boards of the Academy of Management Journal (a UTD journal) and Management and Organization Review (a journal specialized on issues related to China or other transforming economies) He also wrote a paper that was recently accepted by the Social Psychology Quarterly. The paper explores how people can solicit a more cooperative response from a stranger, when they demonstrate half trust.
  • Stephen Diasio, instructor who teaches courses in entrepreneurship, was recently interviewed by the ABC affiliate in Sarasota about the challenges of teaching through the pandemic.

  • Eileen Rodriguez, regional director of the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, was tapped to give predictions for the new year in a Tampa Bay Times story.
  • Avijit Sengujpta, instructor with the School of Information Systems and Management, was the runner-up for the best dissertation proposal award at the WITS 2020 Conference. The proposal is titled "Designing a Health Coach-Augmented Health System for the Secondary Prevention of Coronary Heart Disease."
  • Balaji Padmanabhan, professor in the School of Information Systems and Management, and Kaushal Chari, former associate dean of the Muma College of Business, contributed to a study that found systems using AI in matching medications to patients could cut prescription costs.

  • Melony Herron, administrative specialist in the dean’s office, was a recipient of the 2019 Outstanding Staff Award. Herron, who won the Quiet Quality Award in 2017, was recognized for her above-and-beyond performance excellence through her daily tasks helping out with events, scheduling front-desk personnel and a variety of other duties.

  • Erwin Danneels, associate professor of marketing, takes a close look at failure in the world of business innovation. The paper, titled "Normalizing vs Analyzing: Drawing the Lessons from Failure to Enhance Firm Innovativeness" was pubished in the Journal of Business Venturing.
  • Jennifer Cainas, instructor with the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has received the the Jim Bulloch Award by the Institute of Management Accountants. Cainas, was recognized for a case study titled "KAT Insurance: Introductory Accounting Data Analytics Cases Using Excel, Power BI and/or Tableau."
  • Carol Osborne, marketing instructor, was quoted extensively in an article appearing in the Sarasota Herald Tribune, revealing ways retailers will approach the upcoming holiday shopping season.

  • Bob Tiller, the Raymond James Financial Director of the Kate Tiedemann School of Business and Finance' Personal Financial Planning Program, has written a book titled "Forgotten Faces, Family Caregiver Voices" due to hit the bookshelves later this month. The book chronicles the research Tiller conductd as a DBA student.
  • Paul Solomon, professor of marketing, was honored as Educator of the Year by the American Marketing Association's Tampa Bay Chapter recently. Solomon teaches marketing management.
  • Dejun "Tony" Kong, faculty director of the Bishop Center for Ethical Leadership on the St. Petersburg campus, published research in Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, a Financial Times 50 journal. The co-authored paper is titled "Face Threat Sensitivity in Distributive Negotiations: Effects on Negotiatior Self Esteem and Demands."

  • Donna Davis, professor in the School of Marketing and Innovation, was prominently featured in a Tampa Bay Times column, explaining why some products make it to the grocery store shelves and others don’t.
  • Moez Limayem, Dean of the Muma College of Business, was named a community hero by EDGE business magazine in its July online publication. The dean’s work in creating the “Post-Crisis Leadership” certificate program was instrumental in his nomination. “The information you provided (in the program) was invaluable and is extremely beneficial as our small businesses rebound,” said Kelly Wilson, editor of EDGE.
  • Matt Mullarkey, director of the DBA program and leader of a study that utilizes cell phone data to track the spread of COVID-19, was featured in a number of news stories last month, including Catalist, the Business Observer, WTSP.com and the Tampa Bay Times.

Sunil Mithas, a World Class Scholar in the School of Information Systems and Management, coauthored research dealing with complaining customers. The research paper, titled "Turning Complaining Customers into Loyal Customers: Moderators of the Complaint Handling - Customer Loyalty Relationship," is being published in the Journal of Marketing and is said to be the "largest scientific study ever to understand how (complaining customers) affect companies' performance."   • Seckin Ozkul, operations and supply chain management faculty member in the Marketing Department, recently finalized funding for two Florida Department of Transportation research grants totaling more than $500,000. they include grants for studies of land-use alanysis for logistics activity centers and trade imbalance and empty backhual. the grants go directly to the Muma College of Business.
  • Matt Mullarkey, program director of the DBA program and instructor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, is among researchers with Shimmer Research who are looking into developing an early warning system for those at risk of contracting COVID-19.

  • Jennifer Cainas, an instructor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, was the recipient of the Spring 2020 Advisory Council Outstanding Teaching Award presented to USF accounting faculty. Cainas is also the Beta Alpha Psi faculty advisor.
  • Matt Mullarkey, an instructor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, recently made a presentation to the Emergence Policy Group (EPG Hillsborough County), discussing ways to take a data-driven approach to re-opening the Tampa Bay region and getting back to work safely in the wake of the COVID-19 crisis.
  • Thomas Smith, an assistant accounting professor, won the "best research paper award" at the American Accounting Association's Accounting Information Systems Midyear Meeting.
  • Don Berndt, an associate professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, penned a paper that was used as a chapter for a retrospective book titled "Summer of Simulation: 50 years of Seminal Computer Simulation Research."
  • Lisa Gaynor, an associate professor with the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has been appointed to serve on the Contemporary Accounting Research Editorial Board. Her term begins this month. Contemporary Accounting Research is considered an elite accounting journal.

  • Carol Osborne, an instructor in the Marketing Department, has been selected to be a judge on the B2 Awards jury for the Association of National Advertisers Awards, which recognizes business to business marketers in 32 categories including "Agency of the Year," and "Corporate Marketer of the Year."
  • Moez Limayem, dean of the Muma College of Business, wrote a blog post for the AACSB, which was published this week. The dean cited the increrase in computer hacking and scamming and voiced concern over all the remote computers now becoming targets of cyhber criminals. He called for business schools to step up in their cyber hygiene and cyber security instruction.

  • Balaji Padmanabhan, a professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department and director of the Center for Analytics and Creativity, was featured in the recent publication from the USF Office of Corporate Partnerships. The issue, titled "AI+X: USF & Industry Innovators Explore the Frontiers of 'Machine Thinking,' " puts a focus on Padmanabhan's research into machine learning and data mining.
  • Russell Clayton, an instructor in the Marketing Department, this month published an article about the advantages of leaving the cell phone home for a day or two. His article appeared in Psychology Today and was titled "Why Unplugging May Actually Be a Key to Reconnecting."

February 2020

  • Stacee Bender, academic services administrator in the Office of Graduate Studies office, was recently appointed to the GRE Business School Advisory Council to provide expertise on specialized graduate business programs. The council is comprised of 12 to 15 appointed members who are admissions leaders from business schools around the world. Bender will serve a three-year term. The council, which includes representatives from universities such as Cornell, Penn State, Carnegie Mellon and others, meets twice a year at Princeton University.
  • Cyndy Davis Sanberg, senior director for business engagement and internships, was named a senior member of the National Academy of Inventors. She has more than a decade of experience developing a stem cell product from umbilical cord blood for treatment of ALS and stroke. She also has established a cord blood stem cell bank at the USF Center of Excellence for Aging and Brain Repair. She holds seven U.S. patents.
  • Shivendu Shivendu, a professor in the ISDS Department, is leading India's initiatives in blockchain as an adviser with the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology through India's National Institute of Smart Governance. He has been in this position since August and is proving instrumental in creating the national strategy for blockchain. He currently is working with the agency and the government to draft the next version of the document incorporating inputs from the consultation process on the first draft.
  • Russell Clayton, an instructor in the Marketing Department, recently wrote an article that was published in Psychology Today. Titled "3 Keys to Employee Performance from Disney," the article stems from an interview Clayton had with Lee Cockerell, retired executive vice president of operations at the Walt Disney World Resort.
  • Diana Hechavarria, associate professor of entrepreneurship, was recently nominated to the executive board of the Junior League of Tampa as well as the advisory board of the Children's Home Society.
  • Robert Tiller has been named director of the Personal Financial Planning program. Tiller, recently hired as instructor in the Finance Department, is a 2017 graduate of the Muma College of Business' Doctor of Business Administration program.
  • Irene Hurst is now a student-development specialist with the Muma College of Business' Center for Analytics & Creativity where she will manage the Tableau initiatives for students. She will continue to run the graduate mentorship program.
  • Kiran Garimella has joined the faculty as a visiting assistant professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. He has a doctorate in artificial intelligence and machine learning and is an authority on blockchain technology.

January 2020

  • Murad Antia, an instructor with the Finance Department, wrote an op-ed piece that was published in the Tampa Bay Times earlier this month. The column, titled "The Impact of Climate Change on Florida's Wealth" discussed how rising seas and more intense hurricanes likely will result in higher taxes just to maintain the state's current standard of living, rather than improve it.
  • Sagar Samtani, an assistant professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, recently earned the best dissertation award for his work titled "Developing Proactive Cyber Threat Intelligence from the Online Hacker Community: A Computational Design Science Approach." The award came from the Association for Information Systems. Samtani conducts cutting-edge research into cybersecurity, hacking and the dark web.
  • Erwin Danneels, an associate professor in the Marketing Department, has written a paper that was published in the Journal of Business Venturing this month. Titled "Learning from Failure and Firm Innovativeness," the paper discusses, and debunks, the notion that tolerating failure is a step toward innovation.
  • Diana Hechavarria, an associate professor with the USF Center for Entrepreneurship, will be honored at the Women in Leadership & Philanthropy's 2020 Faculty Excellence Reception on Jan. 30. Hechavarria is among a handful of faculty members who have won the organization's Dr. Kathleen Moore Faculty Excellence Award.

  • Alan Hevner, a Distinguished University Professor and Eminent Scholar in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has been selected as a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, a designation that less than .1 percent achieve each year.
  • James Stock, a marketing professor and co-director of the Monica Wooden Center for Supply Chain Management & Sustainability, received the Outstanding Global Vision Award and Kaushik Dutta, chair of and professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, received the Outstanding Student Success Award. The recognition of educators, staff and administrators who are instrumental in expanding USF's global footprint, came during an event last month hosted by USF World.   • Erwin Danneels, an associate professor in teh Marketing Department, has written a paper that will be published in the Journal of Business Venturing in January.   • Mike Mondello, a professor in the Marketing Department teaching and conducting research with the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, co-authored a paper titled "Betting Market Outcomes and NBA Television Viewership," which will appear in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Sport Management.
  • Three current and former marketing PhD students have landed teaching positions at PhD-granting universities. Iana Shaheen, expected to graduate next year, was hired at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville; Annika Abell is now an assistant professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and Courtney Szocs is now an assistant professor at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge.

November 2019

  • Rob Hooker, a professor in the Marketing Department, earned the USF 2018-19 Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. Hooker undertook the effort, on behalf of the Muma College of Business, to establish the pathway so that every business student will earn the designation of Global Citizen. He will receive the award at a Nov. 22 ceremony.
  • Moez Limayem, dean of the Muma College of Business, wrote a guest article for BW Education, which appeared last month. The dean talked about the importance of data analytics and creativity in the survival of future leaders. To read the article, click here.
  • Anol Bhattacherjee, a professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, was awarded the Operational Research Society's Stafford Beer Medal 2019 for the best paper published in the European Journal of Information Systems in 2018. The paper, titled "User Response to Mandatory IT Use: A Coping Theory Perspective," was co-authored by Chris Davis, Neset Hikmet and Amy Connolly.
  • Dipayan Biswas, a professor in the marketing department, recently received word that a paper he co-authored with Ruta Ruzeviciute and Bernadette Kamleitner, titled "Designed to S(m)ell: When Scented Advertising Induces Proximity and Enhances Appeal" in the Journal of Marketing Research. Biswas also was interviewed on the most popular television channel in Russia about ambient scent on food choices. His research into sensory marketing is known worldwide and recently appeared on "The Food Network" and in Good Housekeeping.
  • Sunil Mithas, a World Class Scholar and professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, was a recent recipient of the "best paper award" for his work published in Information Systems Research in 2018. His paper was titled "Does Platform Owner's Entry Crowd Out Innovation? Evidence from Google Photos."

  • Sunil Mithas, a World Class Scholar and professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, is the recipient of the USF Faculty Outstanding Research Achievement Award, which recognizes exceptional research productivity during the 2018 calendar year. Judges took into account preeminent awards received, grants and/or publications in premier journals.
  • Marvin Karlins, a professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department has just finished his most recent book, a biography of Tony March, a businessman who owned more than 20 car dealerships at one point, rising from abject poverty as a child in Daytona Beach to become a multimillionaire. March now prepares food at a Tampa soup kitchen feeding the homeless. The book, titled "Paying It Backward" is due out in the spring.
  • Jennifer Cainas, an instructor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, earned the American Institute of CPAs 2019 Teaching Innovation Awards honorable mention, recognizing her efforts on a team of educators who taught students how to collect and interpret data and to make informed decisions for business management.

  • Kaushik Dutta, professor in and chair of the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department; Shivendu Shivendu, an associate professor in the ISDS Department and Kiran Garimella, an adjunct professor in the department, have written a white paper on the topic of blockchain that has been published in the AACSB blog.
  • Ron Satterfield was named academic director of the weekend Executive Business Analytics and Information Systems program. He was the founding director of the program and replaces Kaushik Dutta, who is now chair of the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. Satterfield received the "best professor award" in the program, given by the fall 2018 graduates.
  • Joni Jones, associate professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has been named director of the MS Business Analytics and Information Systems program.
  • Triparna de Vreede, the academic director of the MS in Management program, was named associate chair of the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. 
  • Tony Kong, associate professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has been named director of the BS in Management program. Kong was hired in the fall and prior to his appointment here, was a tenured associate professor of management and leadership at the University of Houston's Bauer College of Business.
  • Janelle Wells, assistant professor, and Michelle Harrolle, director of the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, have published a book titled "The Business of Esports: The Wild, Wild West on Fire."

August 2019

  • Jong Chool Park's coauthored paper (with J.B. Kim and J. Lee) titled "Internal Control Weakness and the Asymmetrical Behavior of Selling, General, and Administrative Costs" has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance. Park is an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy.
  • Ken Short has been hired as an associate director with the college's Financial Management team. He assists in the oversight of the college's budget and financial reporting and will work to streamline and automate business processes. In 2000, he joined the USF Center for Urban Transportation Research, and was managing the administrative team just prior to joining the Muma College of Business.
  • Kaushik Dutta, professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has been named chair of the department. He has 22 years' experience in the field of enterprise IT infrastructure, data analytics and big data systems and served as associate chair last year. He takes over for Manish Agrawal, who has chaired the department since 2016.
  • Loran Jarrett is now a visiting instructor in the Marketing Department. She previously served as vice president of marketing strategy and public relations at Synapse. She is a 2018 graduate of the Doctor of Business Administration program.
  • Dejun "Tony" Kong was hired as an associate professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. Prior to his assignment at USF, Kong was a tenured associate professor of management and leadership at the University of Houston's Bauer College of Business.
  • Daniel Zantedeschi is a new assistant professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. He comes from the Fisher College of Business at The Ohio State University, where he was an assistant professor in marketing and logistics. Between 2014 and 2016, he was an assistant professor in the Muma College of Business ISDS Department.
  • Carter Morgan is now an assistant professor in the Marketing Department, having graduated from the University of Miami this past spring. There, he taught courses in market analysis and was named Outstanding PhD Student at the Miami Business School in 2018.
  • Ryan Thurman was hired as an instructor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. He has served as the statistical consultant for the Muma College of Business' Doctor of Business Administration program since 2017.

July 2019

  • Kristina Demek, assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, received notice of the acceptance of her co-authored article, with S. Kaplan and A. Winn, in Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, a highly regarded academic journal. The article is titled " Who Really Performs the Audit? Examining the Effects of Supplemental Voluntary Disclosure of the Use of Other Auditors on Investors' Perceptions of Audit Quality."
  • Tim Heath, professor in the Marketing Department, was the recent recipient of the USF Outstanding Faculty Award from the USF Provost's Office. Heath has been with USF since 2013 and last year won a Fulbright scholarship awarding him a visiting professorship at the Vienna University of Economics and Business in Austria.
  • Seckin Ozkul, instructor with the Marketing Department, has been appointed to the Florida Freight Advisory Committee as an adviser to the Florida Department of Transportation's multimodal freight planning efforts. Ozkul, who teaches and conducts research into supply chain management issues, will be part of an office that focuses on freight transportation and logistics and has an annual budget of $1 billion.
  • Bill Sutton, founding director of the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, received the Albert Leffler Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by TicketMaster, at the 2019 TicketMaster Summit in Los Angeles. Sutton will retire at the end of the year to become the dean of the Atlanta-based Elevate Sports Academy.
  • Gert-Jan de Vreede, is now the associate dean for research and professional programs. de Vreede had served as interim dean on the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus and is a professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department on the Tampa campus.

June 2019

  • Sagar Samtani continues his dive into the dark web, and now is collaborating with researchers from the University of Arizona to find ways to protect scientific instruments and research from being hacked by dark web denizens. Samtani received a CISE Research Initiation Initiative NSF grant this spring -- the first such grant given to a business college researcher in the state of Florida.
  • Bill Burnham, an accounting and business-planning consultant with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, was awarded the Performance Excellence of the Year Award at the 2019 Business Awards Celebration Luncheon hosted by the center last month.
  • Eileen Sarris ('93, MAcc) received the Leadership Sarasota Dedication Award from the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce at the 2019 Celebrate Outstanding Leadership Luncheon last month. She is the chief financial officer at The Field Club.
  • Kyle King, a hospitality, management and marketing consultant with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, received the Rising Star of the Year award at the 2019 Business Awards Celebration Luncheon hosted by the center in May. King received the Valor Award for his work after Hurricane Irma struck Florida in 2017.
  • Stacey Dadd, marketing and communications officer with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, was named Ambassador of the Year at the 2019 Business Awards Celebration Luncheon, hosted by the center, last month.
  • Dipayan Biswas recently published research examining the perceptions in food taste when consumers stand versus seated. The article titled "Extending the Boundaries of Sensory Marketing and Examining the Sixth Sensory System: Effects of Vestibular Sensations for Sitting versus Standing Postures on Food Taste Perception," was co-written by Courtney Szocs, assistant professor of marketing at Louisiana State University and Annika Abell, a PhD student at USF, who will assume an assistant professorship at the University of Tennessee in the fall. The research was published in the Journal of Consumer Research, a premier research publication.

May 2019

  • Lin Jiang’s research about to be published in the Academy of Management Journal, discusses when and how entrepreneurs should display emotion when making pitches for funding. The paper titled “Can Joy Buy You Money? The Impact of the Strength, Duration and Phases of an Entrepreneur’s Peak Displayed Joy on Funding Performance,” was co-written by Dezhi Yin, assistant professor in the ISDS Department and Dong Liu, associate professor at Georgia Tech.
  • Diana Hechavarria was recently promoted to associate professor of entrepreneurship. She teaches social and global entrepreneurship, strategic and technical entrepreneurship and business planning and recently received the USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy Dr. Kathleen Moore Faculty Excellence Award. Hechavarria also won the Muma College of Business Faculty Community Engagement Award.
  • Jung Chul Park was promoted recently to associate professor of finance. He teaches theory of finance and advanced financial management to graduate students and he has developed International Finance as a global citizens’ course for undergraduates.
  • Erin Smith, development specialist, was the recipient of the Muma college of Business Staff Community Engagement Award. She has been involved in the organization and implementation of events for Voices for Children of Tampa Bay and the Hillsborough County Guardian ad Litem Program. She also serves on the college’s Staff Council.
  • Kaushik Dutta, is now a full professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. With more than two decades of professional and research experience, Dutta teaches courses in big data and e-commerce and has a long list of published articles in highly respected journals.

April 2019

  • G.J. de Vreede was named associate dean for research and professional programs at the Muma College of Business last week. He currently serves as the interim dean of the College of Business at the USFSM campus and is a professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department on the Tampa campus. Previously, de Vreede was the Charles & Margre Durham Distinguished Professor of Interdisciplinary Informatics at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the founding director of the university's Center for Collaboration Science. He will replace Kaushal Chari who recently was named dean of the Sheldon B. Lubar School of Business at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Chari has been the associate dean since 2013.
  • Anand Kumar, associate marketing professor, was named Teacher of the Year at the annual Muma College of Business Teacher Symposium last month. Kumar, former chair of the Marketing Department, has been at USF since 2005 and teaches undergraduate, graduate and PhD courses. He also leads the Digital Marketing Certificate program. The award was presented by Dean Moez Limayem, who has worked with Kumar for the past seven years. Kumar, Limayem said, is known throughout the college for engaging current and former students and leveraging alumni to obtain prestigious internships for students.
  • Dipayan Biswas, marketing professor, was named Educator of the Year by the American Marketing Association Tampa Bay at a recent reception. Research by Biswas also was accepted for publication in the Journal of Consumer Research. The article, titled, "Using the Sixth Sensory System for Food Evaluations: Effects of Vestibular Sensations Associated with Sitting Versus Standing Postures on Taste Perception," was co-authored by former PhD student Courtney Szocs and current PhD student Annika Abell.
  • Alan Hevner, Distinguished University Professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, was profiled in a publication of the Association for Information Systems. The piece, titled "Ten Questions with Al Hevner," was published in March.
  • Samantha Fitzmaurice has been hired as the student outreach and programs coordinator in the dean's office, where she will plan and implement all special events and community outreach programs. Previously, she worked for The Walt Disney Company as a resort operations assistant at the Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. There, she oversaw employee special events and recognition programs.
  • Iana Shaheen, a PhD student in the Marketing Department, was the recipient of the USF Provost's Award for Teaching by a Graduate Teaching Assistant at an event held last week. She was one of six teaching assistants honored university-wide. The award recognizes graduate teaching assistants who exhibit excellence in undergraduate education. Her teaching philosophy is this: "I want students to care about the material, since only people who are passionate about something can make a difference."
  • Erwin Danneels, associate professor of management, has co-authored an article titled "Normalizing vs. Analyzing: Drawing the Lessons from Failure to Enhance Firm Innovativeness" which soon will be published in the Journal of Business Venturing. The paper was co-authored by Alex Vestal at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington

  • Patrick Wheeler, associate professor with the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, recently completed a paper that was accepted by the Journal of Accounting & Organizational Change. The paper, titled "Decision-Aids for Non-Expert Decision Makers: An Experimental Investigation of Performance and Learning," was co-authored with Maia Farkas, a former USF PhD student now teaching at California State University San Marcos.
  • Matt Mullarkey, instructor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, recently was appointed an Extraordinary Research Scientist in the Workwell Research Unit for Economic & Management Sciences at the North-West University in Potchefstroom, South Africa. The recognition is for his work helping NWU faculty and students incorporate design science research methods into articles, dissertations and theses.
  • Dipayan Biswas, marketing professor, recently had an article appear in the Journal of Marketing Research, examining the impact of ambient food scents and how they can affect a person's food choices. As a result, his work has attracted widespread media coverage including Time Magazine, Newsweek and CBS. Biswas also co-authored a paper with Sarah Lefebvre, assistant marketing professor at Murray State University, titled "The Influence of Ambient Scent Temperature on Food Consumption Behavior" that was accepted by the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied.
  • Moez Limayem, dean of the Muma College of Business who chaired the AACSB Business School Communications and Development Symposium in Clearwater Beach earlier this month, wrote a blog for the organization's website titled "Transforming the Business School Through Donor Relationships."

  • Alan Hevner, professor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, recently was named an Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award recipient by Marquis Who's Who, a premier publisher of biographical profiles. Hevner, a Distinguished University Professor and Eminent Scholar, is a pioneer in the use of design science in the field of computer information systems.
  • Patrick Wheeler, associate professor, and Tom Smith, assistant professor, both with the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, recently won "best paper" awards at the Accounting Information Systems and Strategic & Emerging Technologies joint conference. Doctoral student Stephanie Walton, former PhD students Yiyang Zhang, Rob Pinsker and Neal Snow, also garnered awards.
  • Dipayan Biswas, marketing professor, recently had an article appear in the Journal of Marketing Research, examining the impact of ambient food scents and how they can affect a person's food choices. His work revealed a direct connection between the length of exposure time to an odor and whether or not that alters consumers' decisions in what to eat. The paper is titled "The Smell of Healthy Choices: Cross-Modal Sensory Compensation Effects of Ambient Scent on Flood Purchases."
  • Moez Limayem, dean of the Muma College of Business, penned an article titled "What I've Learned as a Leader" that was published in the most recent issue of Edge Business Magazine. The piece offers insights and observations for those in leadership roles. To read the article, click here.
  • Scott Carpenter is now a business consultant for the Manatee County market of the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF. He has a background in reputation management and marketing communications and he has owned his own business in Sarasota for the past 12 years. Carpenter is experienced in leading national and local business-to-customer and business-to-business campaigns.
  • Kimmi Phillips has been hired as a recruiter and adviser in the Muma College of Business' Admissions Office. She previously had worked as a teacher of creative arts at Liaoyuan Bilingual High School in Shanghai, China..

  • Sunil Mithas, World Class Scholar with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has co-written a paper that has been conditionally accepted by MIS Quarterly, a top-tier journal. The paper titled "Organized Complexity of Digital Business Strategy: A Configurational Perspective," is co-authored by Youngki Park of George Washington University.
  • Jackie Reck, associate dean, was cited in an article appearing in a Lehigh University publication citing her co-written article titled "Developing a Government Reporting Taxonomy," published in the Journal of Information Systems. The research by Reck and co-author Neal Snow, assistant professor of accounting at Lehigh University, involved the examination of hundreds of municipal statements beginning in 2011.
  • Marvin Karlins, professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, co-authored a book in 2008 titled "What Every Body Is Saying" that discusses how to read body language and detect deceptive behaviors. The book, co-written by Joe Navarro, a former FBI counterintelligence officer, last month was No. 5 on a best-selling, non-fiction books list compiled by the Associated Press. The top book on the list: "Becoming" by Michelle Obama.
  • Bill Sutton, founding director of the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, was quoted in a WJCT report last month about the Tampa Bay Rays' efforts to find a new stadium. Sutton said the team should shoulder the blame for the Ybor City plans falling apart. On another topic, in a story published on WUSF last month, Sutton said there was little chance of an XFL team making a go of it in the Tampa Bay market. 

December 2018

  • Sagar Samtani, assistant professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, was awarded the prestigious two-year, $175,000 National Science Foundation CISE Research Initiation Initiative grant. Often referred to as the "Mini-CAREER Award," the grant helps researchers achieve research independence during the formative years of their new faculty positions. Samtani began teaching in the Muma College of Business this semester.
  • Jackie Reck, associate dean, was cited in a Forbes article for her "groundbreaking" research. The article, titled "The Four Letters Transforming The Municipal Bond Market and Government Finance," discussed the need for interconnectivity in government accounting. The research involved analysis of annual financial reports from every U.S. state.
  • Manish Agrawal, chair of the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, was featured in a recent edition of BSchools in a listing titled "Online MBA in Cybersecurity Faculty to Know." The profile said "Dr. Agrawal is considered an expert in cybersecurity, social media, software quality and decision fusion." The same feature listed the Muma College of Business in the top 10 of business colleges offering MBA students a concentration in cybersecurity.

November 2018

  • Pietro Bianchi’s co-authored article titled “Joint Audit Engagements and Client Tax Avoidance: Evidence from the Italian Statutory Audit Regime” was accepted for publication in the top-tier Journal of the American Taxation Association. Bianchi, an assistant accounting professor also had a sole-authored article titled, “Auditors’ Joint Engagements and Audit Quality: Evidence from Italian Private Companies” appear in Contemporary Accounting Research.
  • Luke Richardson’s co-authored article titled “To Deduct or Not Deduct: Qualified Performing Artists” was accepted for publication in Tax Notes, a top ranked tax law journal. Richardson, an accounting instructor, had another article related to a new tax form that may simplify tax compliance for seniors, appear in Tax Insider, a weekly electronic newsletter of the AICPA. The article had more than 3,000 views since its publication on Aug. 30.
  • Dahlia Robinson, has been promoted to full professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy.
  • Lei Zhang has been promoted to associate professor in the USF Center for Entrepreneurship.

  • Sagar Samtani, an assistant professor in the ISDS Department, was the runner-up for the Nunamaker-Chen Dissertation Award offered through the Information Systems Society. Samtani also was a finalist for the “best paper” in the upcoming Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ Intelligence and Security Informatics Conference held this month in Miami.
  • Lisa Gaynor and her co-authors will receive the auditing section’s “best paper” award for their publication “Understanding the Relation Between Financial Reporting Quality and Audit Quality” in Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory. The award will be presented at a meeting in January.
  • Timothy Heath received the Outstanding Area Editor award from Journal of Marketing.
  • Kerry Myers, a clinical  professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, was recognized recently as a "Featured Expert in Money Laundering" by ForensicsColleges.com. The list is comprised of some the outstanding professors in the field. Myers teaches courses in forensic accounting and legal issues.
  • Dipayan Biswas received the Outstanding Area Editor Award from the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.

  • Shivendu Shivendu had an article published in The Asian Age earlier this month titled "Fake News, the DNE of Tech Firms: The Big Fight Against Fake News." He related the legend that the Egyptian pharaoh Rameses the Great once detailed an account of a great battle victory, which, by all accounts, proved to be less than true.
  • Eileen Rodriguez, regional director of the Florida Small Business Development Center, was the recipient of a 2018 Pathways Award for her contributions to the betterment of Latinos in the region. She was presented with the USF Latin Community Advisory Committee award at the Hispanic Heritage Kick-Off Luncheon earlier this month.
  • Russell Clayton, instructor with the Marketing department, was interviewed recently by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (equivalent to NPR). In the introduction and signoff, for the piece on career changes, the interviewer mentions the Muma College of Business.
  • The Florida Small Business Development Center at USF blog was named among the top 10 small business inspiration blogs by Fieldboom recently, landing in the No. 6 position. The blog is overseen by Stacey Dadd, the marketing and communications officer with the center.
  • Dahlia Robinson, a professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has co-authored an article that has been accepted for publication in Journal of Empirical Legal Studies. This is an interdisciplinary journal that publishes empirical articles of interest to scholars in a diverse range of law and law-related fields, including civil justice, corporate law, criminal justice, domestic relations, economics, finance, health care, political science, psychology, public policy, securities regulation, and sociology.

  • Dipayan Biswas, professor in the Marketing Department, was named associate editor at the Journal of Retailing.*
  • Marvin Karlins, professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has been granted media privileges with the International Federation of Journalists, the world's largest organization of journalists. The recognition will allow him to gather information to assist in research and teaching.
  • Andrew Artis and Richard Kelso, two professors in the Marketing Department, were named among the top 10 professors at USF by OneClass, an online study guide. Artis and Kelso were named No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. The ranking was, in part, based on student reviews of faculty across the university..
  • Russell Clayton, a newly hired instructor with the Marketing Department, penned a research paper titled "Can You Afford to Change your Career?" which appeared in the Harvard Business Review.
  • Laura Mattia, the Raymond James Financial Director of the Personal Financial Planning Program, was quoted in a WealthManagement.com article last month titled, "What Stops Women in Finance? It's Culture, Culture, Culture."
  • Michelle Harrolle, assistant professor with the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, has been named president of the Tampa Bay chapter of Women in Sports and Events. The chapter was launched earlier this month for the educational resource organization for women in those fields. Fellow faculty member Janelle Wells was named to the chapter's strategic planning committee.

August 2018

  • Paul Solomon and Andrew Artis, professors in the marketing department, published an article in the June 2018 issue of the Journal of Marketing Theory and Practice. The piece, co-written by Indiana State University's Associate Marketing Professor David Fleming and Eric Harris, professor of marketing at Pittsburg State University in Kansas, was titled, "The Impact of Perceived Corporate Affinity for Technology on Key Service Outcomes: A Signaling Theory Perspective."
  • Sunil Mithas, a World Class Scholar, has joined the faculty of the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. Mithas has taught at the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland, and has held visiting positions at the University of Mannheim in Germany and in the Graduate School of Management at the University of California, Davis. He is the author of the books "Digital Intelligence: What Every Smart Manager Must Have for Success in an Information Age" and "Dancing Elephants and Leaping Jaguars: How to Excel, Innovate, and Transform Your Organization the Tata Way."
  • Jee Won (Brianna) Choi has been hired as an assistant professor in the Marketing Department. In May, she received a PhD with a concentration in marketing from Georgia State University.
  • Deepak Sainanee is now a full-time instructor in the Marketing Department as well as the ISDS Department. He had been an assistant professor at Purdue University and an associate professor at Saint Mary's College.
  • April Bailey is an instructor in the Marketing Department. She previously taught at St. Petersburg College's College of Business over the past four years.
  • Russell Clayton has been hired as an instructor with the Marketing Department. He is a former faculty member of St. Leo University.
  • Pietro Bianchi is now an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy. He previously worked as an assistant professor of accounting in the University of Miami's School of Business Administration.
  • Kellas Cameron is now an assistant professor in the ISDS Department, having started this summer. He recently received a PhD with a concentration in operations and technology management from the Boston University's Questrom School of Business.
  • Dezhi (Denny) Yin has been hired as an assistant professor with the ISDS Department. He was an assistant professor at the University of Missouri since 2012.
  • Sagar Samtani began teaching this fall as an assistant professor with the ISDS Department, coming from the University of Arizona's Management Information Systems Department.
  • Jong Chool Park (not to be confused with Jung Chul Park, an assistant professor in the Finance Department) is now an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, coming from Old Dominion University in Virginia where he was an associate professor and the E.V. William Research Fellow.
  • Lin Jiang has been hired as a visiting assistant professor in the Marketing Department. She comes from the University of Missouri, where she had been an assistant professor since 2010.
  • Kristina Demek is now an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy. She came from the University of Central Florida, where she had been an assistant professor since 2014.
  • Pinshuo Wang has been hired as an assistant professor in the Finance Department. She comes from Northeastern University, where she graduated this year and served as an instructor teaching corporate finance to undergraduates.
  • Seckin Ozkul, a research associate faculty member with USF's Center for Urban Transportation Research and an adjunct professor at the Muma College of Business' Marketing Department, begins teaching in the Muma College of Business full time this fall.
  • Harvey Hyman is now an instructor in the ISDS Department. He has taught at St. Leo University, Georgia Southern University, Florida Polytechnic University and New College of Florida.
  • Magdala Saint-Louis is now an advisor with the Bulls Business Community, coming from a position as program manager at the Sunrise Domestic and Sexual Violence Center. She is a USF graduate and worked as a graduate assistant at the Collier Student Success Center between 2015 and 2017. She also was a resident of the BBC when she was an undergraduate here.
  • Dorina Hart is now a full-time start-up business consultant with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF. She had worked part time with the center since February.
  • Pablo Arroyo has been hired as a growth acceleration business consultant with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF. He previously worked as a business development specialist for the University of Missouri's Small Business & Technology Development Center.

July 2018

  • Uday Murthy, professor of accounting and director of the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has won the 2018 Journal of Information Systems Best Paper Award for the article titled, "The Effects of Information Disaggregation and Financial Statement Interactivity on Judgments and Decisions of Nonprofessional Investors." He and co-author Andrea Kelton, associate professor of accounting at Middle Tennessee State University, will be honored at the American Accounting Association's Annual Accounting Information Systems business meeting in August.
  • Grandon Gill, professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department and director of the DBA program, received the 2018 Ranulph Glanville Award at the World Multi-Conference on Systemics, Cybernetics and Informatics recently in Orlando. The recognition was for his contributions to informing science, the cybernetic implications of case studies and the cybernetic structure of informing systems.
  • Tom Smith, assistant professor of accounting, received a notice of acceptance for his article titled, "Do Auditors' Price Breach Risk in Their Audit Fee?" from Journal of Information Systems, a top-tier journal. The article was co-authored with Florida Atlantic University faculty members Rob Pinsker, whose PhD in accounting is from USF, and Julia Higgs.
  • Lori Wilder, who handles scheduling of classes in the Collier Student Success Center; Doug McLeod, who runs the mail room; Lauren Baumgartner, academic  program specialist; Jose Soto, undergrad programs office manager; and Sandra Denslow with undergraduate advising, all were recognized last month by the USF Staff Senate for winning Quiet Quality Awards over the past year. The awards recognize conscientiousness, professional manner, positive attitude and work performance, among other attributes.
  • Kyle King and Michael Noel, both business consultants with the Florida Small  Business Development Center at USF, won statewide Valor Awards. King volunteered to help in the relief efforts in the Florida Keys after Hurricane Irma devastated the region. There, he assisted clients of the center recover in the wake of the storm. He also assisted the Stano Foundation in sending emergency survival backpacks to Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria left the U.S. territory in shambles. Noel, working in a remote office in Avon Park, helped 87 small businesses receive nearly $3 million in bridge loans in Central Florida, allowing them stay open and on their feet after Hurricane Irma.
  • Dipayan Biswas, professor of marketing, was invited to be an associate editor with the Journal of Retailing, a top-tier journal. He also serves as associate editor with two other journals, the top-tier Journal of Business Research and the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science.

June 2018

  • Dave Ortineau, Barbara Lafferty and Walter Whitlock have recently retired or will soon retire. Ortineau, a marketing professor since 1995, retired on May 7; Lafferty, an associate professor of marketing since 2001, retired on June 1; and Whitlock, an instructor in the ISDS Department since 1998, is set to retire on Aug. 7.
  • Liz Sismilich, senior development director, who has led fundraising efforts over the past four years for the Muma College of Business, has announced her retirement. She has agreed to stay in her position, working on a part-time basis, until a new director is found. Sismilich has been with USF for 27 years, having worked at the College of Arts and Sciences, the USF Eye Institute, the USF Library and for a time, as the director of Prospect Research.
  • Pat Gordon, a growth acceleration specialist with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, was named Employee of the Year at a recent performance awards luncheon. She completed 18 emergency bridge loans totaling more than a half-million dollars to help small businesses stay on their feet in the wake of Hurricane Irma.
  • Laura Mattia, director of the new Personal Financial Planning Program, and Leo Chen, director of the Student Managed Investment Fund, no longer have "visiting" faculty in their titles. Both are now full-time faculty.
  • Janette Blanco, was named Consultant of the Year at the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF during a recent awards luncheon. Her vast knowledge of construction and contracting issues helps her advise clients in applying for government contracts.
  • Lauren Baumgarten, academic program specialist was a recent recipient of the Quiet Quality Award from the Staff Senate. The award recognizes staff members who are consistently conscientious, professional, self-directed and team-oriented.
  • Jose Soto, the undergraduate programs office manager, recently won the Outstanding Community Engagement Award. Soto collected water, food, clothes and toys for Hurricane Maria victims in Puerto Rico.
  • Denise Clemence, who specializes in small business administration loans, was named Volunteer of the Year at a recent performance awards luncheon of the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF.
  • Matt Mullarkey, ISDS instructor and director of the Muma College of Business's DBA program, was the recipient of the Outstanding Community Engagement Award.
  • The Muma College of Business's Collier Student Success Center recently received an award from the USF Provost's Office, recognizing the center's programs and efforts aimed at helping students succeed.

  • Dipayan Biswas, professor of marketing, recently learned that a research paper he co-authored was accepted by the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science (a Financial Times-50 journal). The paper, co-written by Kaisa Lund and Courtney Szocs, is titled, "Sounds Like a Healthy Retail Atmospheric Strategy: Effects of Ambient Music and Background Noise on Food Sales."
  • Bill Sutton, director of the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, addressed the Exercise and Sport Science program at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse as a distinguished scholar last month. His talk, titled "The Battle for Attention," addressed ways to promote sporting and entertainment events and how best to capture the attention of fans and spectators.
  • Laura Kneski has joined the communications and marketing office as a graphic artist. Prior to taking the position, she was the graduate assistant in the office. She graduated with a master's degree in marketing in May.
  • James Stock, a long-time professor in the marketing department and Distinguished University Professor, received the inaugural USF Nexus Initiative Award, which recognizes global and national research collaborations for tenured/tenure-track and full-time research faculty members.
  • Le'Shell Davis was hired last month as an academic program specialist in the Muma College of Business's Office of Graduate Studies.
  • Sajeev Varki, a marketing professor, last month was awarded a Fulbright Core Scholarship, making him the eighth current Muma College of Business professor to be honored by the prestigious program over the past three years. Varki will travel to Belarus to present to and network with international researchers and scholars.

April 2018

  • Dipayan Biswas recently received the Outstanding Area Editor Award by the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. Biswas, a marketing professor, was cited for strong contributions and for being a part of the journal's success in publishing high-quality research. Biswas will be recognized at an upcoming editorial board meeting.
  • Karla "Doreen" MacAulay received the Muma College of Business Outstanding Teacher Award at a recent teaching symposium. MacAulay, an instructor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, in addition to her teaching duties, helps coordinate various case competitions at the college and assisted in organizing the teaching symposium.
  • Moez Limayem, dean of the Muma College of Business, was granted an administrative Fulbright Scholarship, which will enable him to travel to Japan for two weeks in June.
  • Alan Hevner, professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department and recipient of the prestigious Distinguished University Professor award, spoke at a seminar in USF's Patel College of Global Sustainability this month. Hevner also recently traveled to his alma mater, Purdue University, where he accepted a 2018 Distinguished Computer Science Alumni Award.
  • The Collier Student Success Center received the USF Provost's Award for helping students succeed in the Muma College of Busienss. The award was announced earlier this month at the USF Student Success Awards Luncheon.
  • Lauren Baumgarten, who works in the DBA program, was the recipient of the Quiet Quality Award from the Staff Senate this week. The award recognizes staff members who are consistently conscientious, professional, self-directed and team oriented.
  • Lu Thompson, office manager with the USF Center for Entrepreneurship, retired last month, after two decades of working at USF. Thompson has been with the center from the beginning.
  • Alex Miller has joined the college's human resources group and will help post student job ads, process appointments for the dean's office and update HR manuals.
  • Janie Ann Malson has been hired as an admissions recruiting advisor with Graduate Studies. She will recruit and counsel prospective grad students. She takers over for Erin Smith, now with the development team.
  • Thomas Stablein has joined the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department as an assistant program director.

March 2018

  • Dipayan Biswas, a professor in the Marketing Department, recently received a "Best Paper Award" at the American Marketing Association's Winter Academic Conference, a premier conference for those in the marketing industry. The paper, titled "Effects of Retail Ambient Music Volume Levels on Food Purchases: Implications for Retail Atmospheric Strategies and Consumer Wellbeing," was co-authored by Kaisa Lunda of Linnaeus University and Courtney R. Szocs of Portland State University.
  • Tim Heath, a marketing professor, was awarded a Fulbright Core Scholarship last month, allowing him to travel to Vienna, Austria, next year.
  • Anol Bhattacherjee, a professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, received a Fulbright Core Scholarship that will send him to India for four months in 2019.
  • Alan Hevner, Distinguished University Professor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has been selected as the 2018 Distinguished Computer Science Alumni from Purdue University's College of Science. He will head to Purdue in April to take part in a seminar and accept the award.
  • Lisa Gaynor, an associate professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has conducted impactful research that has been cited by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board in a recent auditing reporting standard, which is a principle on which auditing procedures are performed and judged. The citation was in "The Auditor's Report on an Audit of Financial Statements When the Auditor Expresses an Unqualified Opinion and Related Amendments to PCAOB Standards."

February 2018

  • G.J. de Vreede, a professor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, has co-authored a paper in the Journal of Management Information Systems titled "Beyond Brainstorming: Exploring Convergence in Teams."
  • Tom Smith, an assistant professor in accounting, co-authored an article that has been accepted for publication in the Journal of Financial Research. The article, titled: "Does Managerial Opportunism Explain the Differential Pricing of Level 3 Fair Value Estimates?" was co-authored by fellow accounting professor Dahlia Robinson.
  • Marv Karlins and Robert Welker will publish a peer-reviewed article titled "The Evolution of Business from a Workplace to a WORTHplace: Dealing Effectively with the Human Factor in the Work Equation" in the April issue of the Journal of Global Business Management.
  • Donna Davis, faculty chair of the Marketing Department, recently traveled with a team of USF representatives to Universidad del Norte in Baranquilla, Colombia, to explore opportunities for collaboration. One project being considered is the Global Classroom, in which students from USF and the Universidad del Norte participate in an international marketing program this fall. The two universities are looking into participating in three or four virtual joint-class sessions

January 2018 

  • Carol Osborne, instructor with the Marketing Department, has been named director of the Zimmerman Advertising Program (ZAP), an interdisciplinary program involving the Muma College of Business and the Zimmerman School of Mass Communications. ZAP students are enrolled in the business advertising major, which is part of the Marketing Department. Osborne teaches basic marketing and promotion management and has more than 30 years' experience in the professional marketing sector.
  • Dahlia Robinson, associate professor of accounting, recently won the Advisory Council Outstanding Teaching Award, which was presented at the Beta Alpha Psi banquet in December. Robinson, a KPMG Faculty Fellow, teaches courses in financial accounting at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
  • Terry Engle, long-time professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, will retire during the spring 2018 semester because of a DROP date deadline. Engle teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in independent auditing and internal operational auditing. He has been teaching at USF for 35 years.
  • Alex Miller has joined the college's human resources group and is working to streamline the college's hiring processes.
  • Kaushik Dutta and Shivendu Shivendu are the recipients of the Muma Fellowship Stipend, which helps defray the costs of resources needed to conduct research. Both are associate professors in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department.
  • Dipayan Biswas and Anol Bhattacherjee recently were awarded the Exide Professorship in Business Ethics. Biswas is a professor of marketing and Bhattacherjee is a professor in information systems. Instructors Kerry Walsh, director of the Business Honors Program, and Greg Smersh, in the Finance Department, also won the award.

December 2017

  • Dipayan Biswas, professor of marketing, recently accepted an invitation to join the editorial review board of the Journal of Marketing, a premier journal in the discipline. Biswas teaches undergraduate, graduate, and PhD-level courses in the sensory and experiential aspects of marketing.
  • Janelle Wells and Michelle Harrolle, both assistant professors, with the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, recently presented a paper entitled, "Rivalry Influences on Fan Engagement Within Twitter: A Case Study of Manchester United," at the Sport Marketing Association Conference in Boston.
  • Shivendu Shivendu, was promoted recently to associate professor with the Information Systems Decision Sciences department. He is the PhD program coordinator and has created and taught undergraduate MBA/MS and doctoral courses in areas related to economics and information systems. He has been with the Muma College of Business since 2015.
  • Delroy Hunter recently was promoted to full professor in the Finance Department. Hunter teaches graduate courses in investments, international finance and empirical methods. Since coming here in 2001, he has taught a wide range of courses at all levels. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar.

November 2017

  • Bill Sutton, director of the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, has accepted an invitation to be a distinguished scholar to lecture at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Sutton will travel to the Wisconsin campus in April to deliver one lecture to the public and three lectures for students in the UW-L Exercise and Sport Science Department. Sutton also delivered the keynote address this month at the Future of Sport Symposium on Global Sport Business Education at the University of Worcester in the Untied Kingdom.
  • Jennifer Cainas, instructor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has won the USF Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award. Cainas is no stranger to teaching awards. In 2014 and 2015, she won back-to-back Beta Alpha Psi Outstanding Teaching Awards and she took the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award at USF in the 2008-09 academic year and again in 2013-14. Also in 2013-14, she won the Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award.
  • David J. Ortinau, professor of marketing, has been selected as one of four guest editors of an upcoming Journal of Business Research special issue titled "Corroborating Empirical Evidence from Published Marketing Research."
  • Jeannette A. Mena recently was granted tenure and has been promoted to  associate professor in the Marketing Department. She teaches marketing strategy, marketing management and international marketing and also mentors doctoral students.
  • Moez Limayem, dean of the Muma College of Business recently received USF World's Outstanding Global Engagement Award in the wake of unprecedented numbers of international students enrolling in the business college and the increase of international partnerships.
  • Rob Hooker was the recipient of the 2017 Outstanding Faculty Award, given at a ceremony earlier this month. Hooker is an assistant professor in the marketing department and teaches courses in market research, marketing strategy and supply chain management.
  • Mike Mondello, professor with the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management Program, is one of the experts quoted in a data-rich WalletHub article that seeks to find the best baseball cities in the nation. Mondello, who has worked with the Tampa Bay Rays' front office in searching out a location in the region where the Rays can move to bump attendance, also talks about the best way to enjoy a game on a budget, issues facing MLB and how fantasy sports will affect the game.

  • Diana Hechavarría, a assistant professor of entrepreneurship, was selected as a recipient of this year's USF Status of Latinos Faculty Award for her dedication. She received the award at the USF Hispanic Heritage Celebration Luncheon earlier this month. Hechavarría teaches courses in social and global entrepreneurship for the USF Center for Entrepreneurship.

  • Jose Soto, office manager for the Muma College of Business Undergraduate Advising was awarded the USF Status of Latinos Staff Award for his accomplishments. He received the award at the recent USF Hispanic Heritage Celebration Luncheon in October. Soto spearheaded a collection drive for necessities, including water, non-perishable goods and personal hygiene products for Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria last month left the U.S. territory devastated.

September 2017

  • Michael Noel has been hired as a consultant serving Highlands, Hardee and DeSoto counties for the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF. He has more than 30 years experience in marketing, finance and operational roles and also has worked as a financial advisor. He has a master's degree in business administration from Georgia State University.
  • Dan Bradley, professor in the Finance Department, is the recipient of the Faculty Outstanding Research Achievement Award for research he conducted last year. The award will be presented to Bradley and other USF researchers at the Faculty Awards Luncheon on Oct. 23.

August 2017

  • James Zhang, a PhD candidate and teaching assistant with the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, presented a paper at a concurrent session of the American Accounting Association's annual meeting in San Diego earlier this month.
  • Janette Blanco, a business consultant in Hillsborough County with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, was named Consultant of the Year recently. Her primary focus is in the construction and contracting industry.
  • Olivia Davis is the new director of the Corporate Mentor Program, taking over for J.R. Haworth who launched a new business venture. Davis's new duties begin on Aug. 21 when she returns from maternity leave.
  • G.J. de Vreede has been named associate chair in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences department. He has helped garner more than $8 million in grants for the department and established an annual workshop for researchers working on collaboration science. As department liaison with the Florida Center for Cybersecurity, he has helped grow the Information Assurance concentration to a point where there now are 110 students enrolled in the concentration.
  • Joni Jones, a professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences department, recently was named as faculty liaison for the Florida Center for Cybersecurity.
  • Dirk Libaers is the newly hired Kennedy Family Professor of Entrepreneurship in the USF Center for Entrepreneurship. The associate professor comes from the D'Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University in Boston.
  • Logan Steele has joined the faculty as an assistant professor of management. He previously taught at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Central Oklahoma.
  • Dan Conway will begin as an instructor for the Information Systems and Decision Sciences department in the fall. He previously served on the faculty of Indiana University, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Virginia Tech, the University of Iowa and the University of Florida.
  • Leo Chen is a visiting professor teaching of the Applied Securities Analysis class in the Finance Department and will oversee students working with the Student Managed Investment Fund. He earned a doctorate in finance from USF. Chen joined Cumberland Advisors in Sarasota as a consultant in 2014 and became a portfolio manager in 2016.

July 2017

  • Yolanda Cowart, a business consultant with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF in Pinellas County, received the Florida SBDC's 2017 State Star Award, the highest accolade achievable by SBDC employees. The award recognizes extraordinary achievements by workers who have made strong contributions to the statewide network.
  • Dipayan Biswas, professor of marketing,  recently was appointed area editor with the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, a Financial Times Top 50 journal.
  • Rosann Webb Collins, associate professor with the Information Systems and Decision Sciences department, recently retired after a 25-year career at USF. She was the faculty director of the MBA and Executive MBA programs during the 2013-14 academic year.
  • Jennifer Cainas, an instructor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, successfully defended her DBA dissertation at the University of Florida.
  • Reggie Shouse, student success advisor with the Muma College of Business, earlier this year successfully defended his higher-education dissertation at Bowling Green State University.

June 2017

  • Sharon Hanna-West, an instructor who teaches ethics and sustainability, received the first-ever Muma College of Business Outstanding Community Engagement and Service Award in recognition of her involvement in matters inside and outside the classroom over the past year.
  • Sarah Moyer, staff assistant in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, along with Melony Herron, office assistant in the Muma College of Business Dean's Suite, received the Quiet Quality Award given by the USF Staff Senate. The award rewards employees who are conscientious and professional and who display qualities such as positive attitudes and excellent interpersonal relationships with other employees.
  • Kristene Manning, business manager with the Small Business Development Center at USF earned her master's degree in biblical studies from the Evangelical College and Seminary in Plant City.
  • Selma Canas, international trade specialist with the Small Business Development Center at USF, was named Employee of the Year. She has worked at the center for seven years, three at the University of North Florida and four at USF.

May 2017

  • Dionne Speer has been promoted to fiscal and business manager at the Muma College of Business. She now manages the team for which she had been an analyst. The team's responsibilities include monthly reconciliations, fiscal liaison with departments and approving purchases. Prior to coming here three years ago, Dionne had worked for the USF Student Affairs Shared Services Center. She has been with the university since 2004.
  • Shane Heiser was promoted to fiscal and business specialist working in the dean's suite. Shane, who has a bachelor's degree in accounting and is nearing completion of his master's degree in accounting, will be the lead accountant for finance, marketing, Sport & Entertainment Management and the USF Center for Entrepreneurship.
  • Kyle King was hired as a small business consultant by the Small Business Development Center at USF.
  • Mitchell Lairmore also was hired as a small business consultant with the Small Business Development Center at USF.

April 2017

  • Melony Herron, Muma College of Business's office manager, and work mom to everyone in the dean's suite, was named recipient of USF's Quiet Quality Award last month. She was given the award in the dean's board room by a throng of appreciative faculty, administrators and students.
  • Janelle Wells, visiting assistant professor with the Sport & Entertainment Management program, was named volunteer of the year at the New Tampa YMCA. Wells teaches global environment of sport, sport and social issues and social media in sport.
  • Jennifer Cainas, accounting professor with the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, was awarded the USF Muma College of Business Outstanding Teaching Award. Cainas, who is the Warren Averett Faculty Teaching Fellow, received  the award at the teaching symposium last month.
  • Stephanie Gray, the new enrollment management specialist, started March 13. Stephanie and her husband relocated here from Nashville, Tennessee.  She holds a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership from Fort Hays State University.  Stephanie also has several years of experience in various customer service positions. Her most recent position was with the Tennessee Bank & Trust where she was a customer liaison.
  • K. Doreen MacAulay, an instructor in the Information Systems Decision Sciences Department, was the recipient of the Women in Leadership and Philanthropy's USF Instructor Faculty Research Award. MacAuley, who teaches management courses, impressed the awards committee with her work on women in STEM professions. She will receive the award at the WLP awards banquet in April.

March 2017

  • Kerry Walsh, an instructor with and director of the Business Honors Program, was selected as this year's Educator of the Year, presented by the American Marketing Association Tampa Bay at a ceremony held on March 2 at the Bryan Glazer Family Jewish Community Center.
  • Donald Berndt, associate professor with the Information Systems Decision Sciences Department, is heading to Washington to share his expertise with the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Financial Research as part of a new externship program in which professors opt out of classes for a while to work in the real corporate world. There, they address issues using their research to solve practical problems. 
  • Lisa Gaynor, associate professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, was named an editor with Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory. Her appointment lasts until 2020. The publication is considered the highest-ranked journal specializing in auditing research. She also has been selected to serve on the editorial board for Contemporary Accounting Research, another premier accounting journal. And she will be the academic co-editor of the American Accounting Association's Current Issues in Auditing. Gaynor's primary teaching responsibilities include financial auditing.
  • Alan R. Hevner, Eminent Scholar in the Information Systems Decision Sciences Department, was named the 2017 Parnas Fellow by Lero, the Irish Software Research Centre. Hevner, who teaches graduate courses in software architecture, testing and advanced information systems analysis and design also holds the Citigroup/Hidden River Chair of Distributed Technology.
  • Moez Limayem, the dean of the Muma College of Business, was honored by Junior  Achievement of Tampa Bay at a recent awards ceremony. The non-profit organization presented Limayem with its National Bronze Leadership Award, which is given annually to "forward thinking entrpereneurs and accomplished community leaders for their contributions to the region's economic development and service as role models for ethical conduct among youth and business peers."
  • Michelle Harrolle, assistant professor with the Sport & Entertainment Management program, recently took a student team to the National Sports Forum Case Cup competition in Minneapolis to compete with teams from some of the top sport management graduate programs in the nation. The case featured Sporting KC, a Major League Soccer team and SeatGeek, an event ticketing app. The USF team, James Swanson, Jonathan Conde, Brian Garie and Samantha Greiner, placed second in the event.
  • Kaushik Dutta, a associate  professor and researcher in enterprise IT infrastructure, data analytics and big data systems, and associate professor Yicheng Tu were awarded a $50,000 NSF I-Corps grant last month to identify the commercialization of a technology developed at USF and designed to shorten response times in data analytics. The research could potentially impact the practice of data management and analysis in a large number of industries including healthcare, retailing and online advertising.
  • Jennifer Cainas, accounting instructor recently took a group of Beta Alpha Psi students to the organization's regional conference and the team won first place in the Best Practice for Community Outreach. Congratulations Business Bulls!
  • Jerry Koehler, long-time business professor, is lecturing about management in an MBA program for professionals at Belarusian State Economic University in Minsk, Belarus as a Fulbright scholar. He left at the beginning of February and was greeted by single-digit temperatures.

  • K. Doreen MacAulay, instructor with the Information Systems Decision Sciences Department led a student team to the Phi Beta Lambda district competition at HCC recently and the four students will move on to the state competition in Orlando next month. Khushboo Bhatia, Preston Jones, Shawn Zamani and Manan Patel, all garnered first- and second-place finishes.
  • GJ de Vreede, professor in the Information Systems Decision Sciences Department who teaches graduate project management courses, was recognized at the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences  as the second most productive HICSS author overall in the 50-year history of the conference, which is the longest running information technology-related conference in the world. He had penned 87 papers.
  • Anol Bhattacherjee, also a professor in the Information Systems Decision Sciences, and co-authors won the best paper award at the HICSS with "The More the Merrier? The Effects of Community Feedback on Idea Quality and Innovation Contests."

January 2017

  • Dipayan Biswas, marketing professor and researcher, recently was quoted in Men's Health magazine. He talked about his research into color schemes and lighting when it comes to eating. His conclusions, as quoted in the magazine, say bright lighting keeps brains alert and that in turn results in people eating healthier foods.
  • Alan R. Hevner, an Information Systems Decision Sciences Department professor who teaches graduate courses in software architecture and advanced information systems analysis and design, has been selected as a Parnas Fellow at Lero for 2017. Hevner, who holds the Citigroup/Hidden River Chair of Distributed Technology, got word in December that he was accepted for the fellowship at the Irish Software Research Centre at the University of Limerick.
  • Stacey Pierce, marketing and communications officer with the Small Business Development Center at USF runs the organization's blog, which recently was ranked among the Top 100 Small Business Blog in the nation by Feedspot, The SBDC blog was ranked No. 84. 
  • Dan Bradley was awarded a 2017-18 Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant, making him the fourth Muma College of Business professor to receive a Fulbright Core Award in the past two years.

December 2016

  • Heather Lively was awarded the CBIZ MHM Teaching Fellowship. She is an instructor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, teaching financial accounting and audit courses. She has several years' experience as an auditor in Tampa and is only in her second year on the faculty. She was named a finalist for the Advisory Council Outstanding Teaching Award.
  • Tom Smith received the Advisory Council Outstanding Teaching Award at the Beta Alpha Psi banquet on Dec. 2. He is an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, teaching intermediate financial accounting. Smith's research has focused on banking, auditing, and executive compensation and he has had work published in numerous accountancy journals.
  • Jung Chul Park was named a Global Faculty Fellow for the spring semester by the university's Global Citizens Project (GCP). As part of the spring 2017 Global Faculty Fellows cohort, he will work with the GCP professional development specialists on enhancing his selected course, FIN 3604 International Finance, and preparing a GCP course certification proposal.
  • William Sutton, director of the Sport and Entertainment MBA/MS program, recently shared advice with the Korea Baseball Organization at its Winter Meeting in Seoul. Sutton said Korean professional baseball teams need to follow the lead of fan-centric teams in America.

November 2016

  • Balaji Padmanabhan was named the new director of the Center for Analytics and Creativity. He is the Anderson Professor of Global Management and teaches in the Information Systems Decision Sciences Department. He has created and taught undergraduate, MBA/MS and doctoral courses in areas related to business/data analytics, computational thinking, and electronic commerce.
  • Kaushal Chari, associate dean for research and professional programs and a professor of Information Systems and Decision Sciences, received the Community Champion for Entrepreneurship Award in October. The award was presented by B.V. Jagadeesh, co-founder of Exodus Communications and managing partner of KAAJ Ventures.
  • William Sutton, director of the Sport & Entertainment Business MBA/MS program in the Department of Marketing, will travel to Seoul, South Korea, in December to deliver speeches at the winter marketing meetings of the Korean professional baseball league, known as the KBO League. Sutton teaches courses in sport marketing and sales along with sports fundraising.
  • Katie Davis has been awarded the Accounting Circle Teaching Fellowship, recognizing her for her excellence in teaching and her continuing productive engagement with the Accounting Circle. Davis has taught principles of financial accounting, principles of managerial accounting, intermediate accounting, cost accounting and accounting information systems.
  • The Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy chapter of Beta Alpha Psi was recognized as a superior chapter at the organization's national meeting, the 40th consecutive year the chapter has received the recognition. The USF chapter also won the KPMG Gold Challenge Award for creating a five-minute video demonstrating why the chapter deserves the award or why a student would want to become part of the BAP organization.
  • Lisa Gaynor has been selected as the next academic co-editor of the American Accounting Association's "Current Issues in Auditing," which seeks to advance the dialogue between academics and practitioners on auditing issues. Gaynor teaches intermediate financial accounting at the undergraduate level and the integrative (capstone) seminar in the master's program in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy.
  • Joni Jones is the new associate chair of Information Systems Decision Sciences Department. She teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in systems analysis and design, business honors professional development and research methods.  Her research has been published in the MIS Quarterly, Production and Operations Management, the Journal of E-Commerce, INFORMS Journal on Computing, Decision Support Systems and has been presented at national and international conferences.
  • Marketing instructor Kerry Walsh was appointed as the new director of the Business Honors Program which has become one of the most prestigious programs to inspire passion and nurture exemplary potential in students. She has more than 20 years' experience managing sourcing projects for manufacturers, distributors and retailers worldwide and has extensive experience in global marketing.
  • Sport MBA Professor Janelle Wells and Center for Entrepreneurship Director Michael Fountain were among the faculty presented with the Global Achievement Award from USF World. They were recognized for their work in educating global citizens and extending USF's global footprint.
  • Jim Stock spoke in October to about 3,000 managers from various retailing enterprises in South America (primarily Colombia) at the National Trade Federation of Columbia Convention of Supermarkets, Self-services and Suppliers of the Sector in Cartagena, Colombia. The topic was "Challenges of the Supply Chain in an Omnichannel World."

October 2016

  • Instructor Clinton Daniel, who is also a student in the Doctor of Business Administration program, received the second place award in the Baylor Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship & Free Enterprise Student Case Writing competition at the North American Case Research Association international competition.  He joined eight of his DBA peers whose works were presented at the NACRA conference.
  • Sport MBA professor Michelle Gacio Harrolle received USF's Hispanic Pathways Award, recognizing, in particular, her scholarly inquiries into barriers and motivations for Latinos to sport participation, sport spectatorship, and recreational behaviors.  The Hispanic Pathways Awards were created in 2004 by the USF Latin Community Advisory Committee to recognize tenured and non-tenured faculty for outstanding research and/or outreach that creates pathways to the betterment of the lives of Latinos in the local community, state, or nation.  Harrolle's scholarly inquiries have resulted in two refereed published journal manuscripts, a book chapter and several national and international research presentations.
  • Rob Hooker was accepted into the prestigious Fulbright Specialist Program in the area of supply chain management. The program promotes linkages between U.S. scholars and professionals and their counterparts at host institutions overseas. Hooker is currently coordinating a project with colleagues at the Stockholm School of Economics for Summer 2017.
  • Professors Marvin Karlins and Bob Welker had a paper, "At the Crossroads of Entitlement Avenue and Litigation Way: A New Challenge for 21st Century Management" published in the Journal of International Management Studies.
  • Keith Morelli has joined the college's communications team.  He previously worked as a reporter at the Tampa Tribune, where he wrote stories on cops and crime as well as handled beats in general assignment, breaking news and features.
  • An article by Kerry Myers, "A Practitioner's Guide to the Florida Cyber Breach Notification Statute," was published in Florida CPA Today.  Myers is a clinical professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy.
  • Dave Ortinau was recently recognized as one of the top 5 percent of 157 reviewers for the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. JAMS is the second most cited journal in the marketing discipline and is included on the Financial Times 50 journal list. The recognition acknowledges the high quality of his reviews.
  • Erin Smith has changed roles at the Muma College of Business. She is now an academic program specialist for the Executive MBA program.
  • The Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance recently published a paper coauthored by Tom Smith, "Bargain Purchase Gains in the Acquisitions of Failed Banks."  Additionally, he has a paper forthcoming in Auditing: A Journal of Practice & Theory: "The Relationship between Aggressive Real Earnings Management and Current and Future Audit Fees." Smith is an assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy. 
  • Assistant Professor Jared Williams' research, "Stock Market Anomalies and Baseball Cards," was recently featured in a Fox 13 story. News articles about this research appeared earlier on Reuters and St. Louis Post Dispatch. Williams also has a paper, "The Effect of Regulating Hidden Add-on Costs" (with J. Ko), forthcoming at the Journal of Money, Credit, and Banking.

  • Associate Professor Lisa Gaynor was selected as a recipient of the 2017 Distinguished Service to A Journal of Practice & Theory award given for outstanding reviewing. AJPT representatives lauded Gaynor for her "critical thinking and for always giving constructive suggestions to authors."
  • Javier Marin, a business consultant and assistant director for the Florida Small Business Development Center at University of South Florida, won the Florida SBDC Network State Star Award during the opening day of the ASBDC National Conference in Orlando on Sept. 19.
  • Sport & Entertainment Management Director Bill Sutton will be commemorated, honored, and roasted, thanks to Robert Morris University.  On Oct. 14, Sutton's long career will be lauded at the university's 4th annual dinner and a portion of each ticket sold will go toward the Outstanding Sport Management Student Scholarship,which will be renamed the Dr. Bill Sutton Scholarship.

  • ISDS Professor Marvin Karlins' book, The Like Switch, was published in October by Simon & Schuster. In addition, 12 foreign publishers have contracted to do foreign language editions of the book, which details techniques that individuals can use to can influence, attract and win people over. Karlins wrote the book with Jack Schafer, a former FBI agent and professor at Western Illinois University. Additionally, an article Karlins wrote, "The Karlins Four Factor Theory of Business Success" was published in the February 2015 issue of the Journal of International Management Studies.

  • Marketing Associate Professor Andy Artis and three former PhD students from the Marketing Department were recently notified that their manuscript, "Self-Directed Learning: A Tool for Lifelong Learning" was the most read/downloaded article for the Journal of Marketing Education in August 2013.
  • Marketing Associate Professor Dipayan Biswas had a paper, "Making Choices while Smelling, Tasting, and Listening: The Role of Sensory Similarity or Dissimilarity when Sequentially Sampling Products," accepted in the Journal of Marketing. The paper, of which he was the primary author, is forthcoming in January.
  • Management Instructor Mike Bowen, as part of his leadership role in the Coalition on Intercollegiate Athletics, has been invited to represent the faculty perspective at the NCAA Board of Directors' meeting on October 29, at the NCAA offices in Indianapolis. The topic at the meeting is the reorganization of the NCAA.
  • Accounting Instructor Jennifer Cainas and accounting honor society Beta Alpha Psi received top awards at the national Beta Alpha Psi Annual Meeting recently. Cainas received the Outstanding Faculty Advisor award, and USF's chapter of Beta Alpha Psi was named a KPMG Gold Chapter for the fifth consecutive year -- one of only two schools internationally to have received this honor since the award's inception in 2009.
  • Ryan Huston, assistant professor in the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, has a paper accepted for publication in The Accounting Review, the top academic accounting journal. His paper is titled "Worth the Hype? The Relevance of Paid-For Analyst Research for the Buy-and-Hold Investor" and is co-authored with Bruce Billings at Florida State and Bill Buslepp at Texas Tech.
  • Eileen Rodriguez, USF Small Business Development Center regional director, was a speaker at the National Association of Women Business Owners annual conference Oct. 4.
  • Retired Marketing Chair Mimi Stamps was recently announced as a 2013 inductee into the PhD Project's Hall of Fame. The PhD Project, an award-winning program to recognize diversity in management, established the Hall of Fame in 2011 to recognize a select few who have inspired many.

August 2013

  • ISDS Professor Anol Bhattacherjee received a USF Creative Scholarship Grant, "Lagged Effects of Information Technology in the Healthcare Industry." The grant will study how long it takes hospitals and healthcare organizations to realize returns from the tens of millions of dollars they spend every year on information technology investments, and whether the magnitude of effects vary with the types of investments.
  • Marketing Associate Professor Dip Biswas and Marketing PhD student Courtney Szocs recently received a USDA grant to study how sensory factors influence healthy food choices for children. This grant is funded by the USDA and administered by the Cornell Center for Behavioral Economics in Child Nutrition Programs. The research holds promise to influence USDA's policies on school lunch programs across the U.S.
  • Jennifer Cainas received "The Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award" for the Delta Gamma Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi for 2013. Only five advisors were chosen at this year's annual Beta Alpha Psi meeting from more than 400 advisors.
  • Erwin Danneels joined the management department as a professor from the University of Central Florida.
  • Donna Davis joined the Marketing Department from Texas Tech University, where she held the Georgie G. Snyder Professorship and was coordinator of the Global Supply Chain Management Program. She will be the co-director of USF's new Center for Supply Chain Management & Sustainability.
  • The Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy hired Kristine Del Vecchio as an instructor. Del Vecchio has 15 years of corporate accounting experience, including as director of corporate tax at Trinet HR Group and director of internal audit at Metlife.
  • Michelle Harrolle joined the Management Department in the Sport and Entertainment Management program as an assistant professor from North Carolina State University.
  • Timothy B. Heath joined the Marketing Department from France, where he was professor and HEC foundation chair at HEC Paris (as well as MBA marketing track coordinator).
  • Diana Hechavarria joined the Center for Entrepreneurship as an assistant professor from the Orkestra Basque Institute of Competitiveness in Spain, where she was a research fellow.

  • Muma College of Business Dean Moez Limayem and faculty from the Marketing Department, including Anand Kumar and Andy Artis, recently visited with leaders at Chromalloy to learn more about the firm and explore ways to partner with the global technology company, particularly in the area of supply chain management and an industry-education partnership.
  • Sattar Mansi joined the Finance Department as a professor from Virginia Tech's Pamplin School of Business, where he was a Wells Fargo Professor of finance.
  • Marketing Professor David Ortinau received an international travel grant recently to travel to Melbourne, Australia, for the 2013 World Marketing Congress. The World Marketing Congress is one of the premier international marketing conferences, with more than 400 academics from 34 countries in attendance. Ortinau presented his research at the conference and served as an expert panel member and consortium faculty member.
  • Associate Professor Balaji Padmanabhan was named chair of the ISDS department, taking over from Kaushal Chari, who was named to an associate dean position.
  • The SBDC's Eileen Rodriguez and Maria Yepes are now NASBITE Certified Global Business Professional Trainers, an industry accreditation that certifies them as well-versed in all areas of international trade.
  • Greg Smersh joined the Finance Department as a permanent faculty member after several years as a visiting assistant professor of real estate.
  • Claire Stephens joined the Office of Graduate Studies as enrollment management assistant, replacing Ellen Moschella, who retired this spring.
  • Marketing Professor Jim Stock wrote an article for CSCMP's Supply Chain Quarterly reviewing the field's past and discussing the future direction of the evolving field.
  • Kerry Walsh joins the Marketing Department as a full-time instructor this fall after serving as an adjunct since 2010. Walsh has more than 20 years of experience managing sourcing projects for manufacturers, distributors, and retailers worldwide.
  • The Information Systems Decision Sciences Department hired He Zhang. Zhang, who has written numerous papers and made presentations on the subject of healthcare analytics, will be teaching a special course on healthcare information systems in the fall.

    USF alumna and former adjunct Kristine DelVecchio will be joining the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy in the fall as an instructor.
  • Timothy Heath
    Timothy Heath will be a professor in the Marketing Department this fall. He is currently a professor and MBA track coordinator at HEC-Paris.
  • Sattar Mansi
    Sattar Mansi will join the finance department as a full professor in the fall 2013 semester. He holds a PhD from Georgetown University and joins the department from Virginia Tech.
  • Yanina Rosario
    USF SBDC clients John Diaz and Lisa Hickey were recently named Minority Owned Small Business Person of the Year and Woman Owned Small Business Person of the Year, respectively, by the South Florida SBDC district. Assistant SBDC Director Yanina Rosario spent more than 100 hours interacting with these clients and developing the applications for their awards.

    The Management Department recently hired Erwin Danneels as an associate professor in strategic management. He has an outstanding record of publications in the area of innovation and was previously at the University of Central Florida. He will begin teaching in the fall.

    The Management Department recently hired Michelle Harrolle as an assistant professor in sport and entertainment management. Previously an assistant professor at North Carolina State University, her research examines diversity and social issues in sport business. She will begin teaching in the fall.

    The Management Department recently hired Diana Hechavarria, who is completing her PhD at the University of Cincinnati. She is joining the entrepreneurship faculty as an assistant professor in the fall. She specializes in start-up activities and nascent entrepreneurs.

    Management Professor Marvin Karlins' co-authored book What Every BODY is Saying: An Ex-FBI Agent's Guide for Speed-Reading People made a list of 25 Psychology Books Everyone Should Read.
  • K. Doreen MacAulay
    The Management Department recently hired K. Doreen MacAulay as an instructor in organizational behavior. She recently completed her PhD at St.Mary's University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and uses qualitative methods to explore organizational change.
  • He Zhang
    He Zhang, a doctoral candidate at Northwestern University, will be joining the Information Systems & Decision sciences Department beginning in the fall. Zhang has a masters degree in management science and engineering from Stanford University, as well as additional degrees (including a masters) from Tsinghua University. Zhang, who has an expertise in healthcare analytics, is scheduled to teach a special topics course on healthcare information systems in the fall.

He was also recently appointed as newsletter editor for the Academy of Management's Social Issues in Management division, and he was elected as general secretary for the Association of Korean-American Management Scholars (AKMS), the official organization for Korean-American scholars in business and management areas.
