Teaching

I am a historian of early modern Europe with a focus on the Dutch and British empires. In the fall of 2026, I will be teaching European History I, which introduces students to the history of Europe from the Black Death to the French Revolution. I have previously taught on the early British empire, Renaissance Italy, and the history of the atomic bomb. I look forward to working with graduate students and undergraduate honors students on projects related to early modern Europe and the European empires.

Research

My research explores early modern Anglo-Dutch relations and transimperial ventures. My book project, War in the Time of Anglo-Dutch Empire, traces financial and imperial collaboration between Dutch and English figures in the first half of the seventeenth century. Articles based on this work have appeared in the Journal of Early Modern History and Itinerario. My research has been supported by organizations including the American Historical Association, the Omohundro Institute, and the New England Regional Fellowship Consortium, and I have held fellowships at institutions including the British Library, the Huntington Library, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.
