BIO

Scott Ferguson holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Film Studies from UC Berkeley and is presently co-director of the Film & New Media Studies Track in the Department of Humanities & Cultural Studies at the University of South Florida. He is also a Research Scholar at the Binzagr Institute for Sustainable Prosperity and Director of the Humanities Division of the Modern Money Network. His current research and pedagogy focus on aesthetic theory; the history of digital animation and visual effects (especially in the age of the Hollywood blockbuster); essayistic writing across media platforms; and Modern Monetary Theory and critiques of neoliberalism. Presently, he teaches courses on moving image aesthetics; the global history of moving images from the 1950s to the present; film and media theory; contemporary American auteurs; the Hollywood blockbuster; and the autobiographical essay as expressed through literary, photo, audio, and moving image media. Dr. Ferguson has published in Screen, boundary 2 online, Qui Parle, CounterPunch, Liminalities, Naked Capitalism, Dollars & Sense, Radical Political Economy, Flassbeck Economics International, "In the Moment" (Critical Inquiry), Rebelion, and Contexto y Accion. His book Declarations of Dependence: Money, Aesthetics, and the Politics of Care was published by the University of Nebraska Press in 2018.
