MESSAGE IN SUPPORT OF UKRAINE

The Institute for Russian, European and Eurasian Studies (IREES) is an Institutional Member of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ASEEES). We support the following statement of the ASEEES Board of Directors:

"The Board of Directors of the Association for Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies condemns Russia’s military assault on Ukraine and President Putin’s use of historical distortions and cynical lies to justify Russia’s attack on Ukrainian sovereignty. We stand with all the people of Ukraine and Russia who oppose this war."

DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

The Institute for Russian, European and Eurasian Studies (IREES) was established to improve knowledge and understanding of Russia, Europe, and Eurasia, and to advance global education and research at USF. The institute was founded in 2017 as the USF Institute on Russia, and has since expanded its area of focus and name. IREES seeks to enhance the education of students in various fields and disciplines, to train regional specialists, and to conduct research on issues that are relevant to the institute's regional focus.

USF students in Russian, European and Eurasian studies are pursuing careers in a variety of fields, including politics and international affairs, national security, journalism, medicine and public health, business, education, and the arts. IREES's events and initiatives strengthen and enrich USF’s academic programs, and provide resources for students and faculty in various disciplines.

IREES has hosted events, sponsored short-term visiting scholars, and invited high-profile guest speakers (government officials, journalists, authors, academics, and others) to share their knowledge and expertise with students, faculty, and the Tampa Bay community. The institute's affiliated faculty have earned prestigious grants, published in prominent peer-reviewed venues, and given talks at national and international conferences. IREES advances the broader mission of the University of South Florida by strengthening its position as an AAU global research university.
