Awan, Shaheen N., Ph.D., CCC-SLP ASHA-F
Research Professor
Auditory & Speech Sciences Laboratory
Dr. Shaheen N. Awan is a research professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of South Florida. He is a certified clinical speech pathologist and a Fellow of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. Prior to joining USF, Dr. Awan was Professor and Chair of the Dept. of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Bloomsburg University of PA (Faculty Emeritus). Dr. Awan’s research expertise focuses on the objective evaluation of voice and the study of acoustic and physiological correlates of dysphonia. His 30+ years of experience as an applied speech scientist has focused primarily on acoustic methods of voice analysis, with a particular emphasis on spectral and cepstral analysis of voice. Dr. Awan developed the computer algorithms for cepstral analysis of voice that are incorporated into the Analysis of Dysphonia in Speech and Voice (ADSV) program (KayPentax/Pentax Medical Inc.) and has published extensively in the area of cepstral analyses. Dr. Awan is the co-author of Dr. Awan’s expertise has been recognized by being selected to lead the acoustic analysis section of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association expert panel in developing recommended protocols for instrumental assessment of vocal function. In addition to acoustic analysis of voice, Dr. Awan also has extensive experience and expertise in aerodynamic and electroglottographic analyses that has also culminated in several published studies. Dr. Awan will serve as the Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research section Editor for Voice and Speech Science starting in January 2022.
