RID/CASLI Testing Information

Interpreter Testing - Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)

RID - National Interpreter Certification (NIC)
Interpreters who obtain NIC certification are nationally-certified interpreters which demonstrate professional knowledge and skills that meet or exceed the minimum professional standards necessary to perform in a broad range of interpretation and transliteration assignments.

The RID moratorium on performance exams for those seeking an NIC has been lifted.  Candidates are able to schedule an appointment for the NIC Performance/interview test.  The moratorium continues for the SL:C, OTC and Ed:K-12.

IMPORTANT CHANGES Regarding Certificate Testing:
A new organization has been established as a subsidiary of RID, Center for the Assessment of Sign Language (CASLI).  This LLC organization will be responsible for development and administration of knowledge and performance exams

NIC Knowledge Exam (Written Test)
RID Written tests (NIC and CDI) will continue to be offered.  The 5-year window on the test score will be extended to make up for the time the performance test was not offered.  To apply for testing, visit the RID website to complete an application.
