Offered on USF's Tampa and Sarasota-Manatee campuses

USF's Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education is designed for students who wish to pursue a career as an elementary classroom teacher. Our program develops students’ understanding of inquiry, inclusion, innovation and integrated instruction while preparing teachers for a diversity of learners.

The program provides students with learning opportunities through coursework and field experiences that equip students with skills to be highly qualified teachers in diverse settings. Students progress through the program with a cohort of peers and gain experience in primary and intermediate elementary level schools.

Emphasis on Arts Integration at USF's Sarasota-Manatee campus

Our emphasis on an arts integration approach to effective teaching makes receiving an education degree from the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee campus distinctive.
Arts-integrated education emphasizes highly engaging teaching methods that incorporate elements of the arts to meet the varied instructional needs of diverse learners. Research-based approaches to arts integration employ teaching practices that demonstrably improve comprehension and long-term retention.
Under the leadership of Helene Robinson, the Sarasota-Manatee campus arts integration coordinator, and in collaboration with the Florida Center for Partnerships in Arts-Integrated Teaching (PAInT), pre-service teachers develop knowledge and skills in effective arts integration pedagogy through methodology proven to increase student self-management and create an environment in which students feel empowered to create.
As part of their clinical experience, pre-service teachers create and implement arts integration lessons at selected partner schools. The final clinical experience culminates with an action-research project in which pre-service teachers use arts-integrated methodology to plan, design, implement and evaluate student learning outcomes related to an identified content skill.
