Middle Grades Mathematics Program
The Middle Grades Mathematics Education Program is designed to prepare students with the specialized knowledge, skills and dispositions to teach young adolescent learners effectively. The pedagogy courses provide opportunities to examine issues related to curriculum, instruction and assessment necessary for teaching number concepts, algebra, geometry and statistics and probability.
This is a cohort-style program with extensive teaching experiences in Hillsborough County Public Middle Schools, including two practica teaching experiences in the first year of the program and a yearlong teaching residency in the second year of the program. Upon successful completion of this state-approved, accredited educator preparation program, students are eligible for certification from the Florida Department of Education in mathematics (grades 5-9).
This is a joint program between the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences in partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools, and is supported by a grant provided by the Helios Education Foundation.
