College of Education alumna gives back and helps honor and memorialize victims on 9/11
This week, we remember the 2,977 victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. For our USF College of Education alumni, Dr. Kristy Verdi PhD with the non-profit Learn and Serve Tampa, this day is a day to do good and give back to the community in their efforts to transform the anniversary of 9/11 into a day of doing good.

Advanced Placement Summer Institute 2023 Recap
This past July, The University of South Florida (USF) College of Education’s Anchin Center hosted its annual Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI). The Anchin Center’s APSI is the third largest in the world, with participants joining from 32 states and 13 different countries, including Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Georgia, Guatemala, Kuwait, Mexico, Myanmar, Panama, South Korea, and Turkey. This summer, they welcomed approximately 650 Advanced Placement (AP) teachers to campus for three consecutive weeks of collaborative professional learning.

USF Stavros Center receives a $20,000 grant to support Financial Literacy Programs for USF Students.
The Gus A. Stavros Center for Free Enterprise and Economic Education received a $20,000 gift from State Farm in support of the Center’s programming to educate students in economics and financial literacy. State Farm’s support will directly impact college-aged students.

The RISE Caribbean Educational Research Conference was co-hosted last week from May 30 – June 1, by the University of South Florida and the University of the West Indies Cave Hill at the USF College of Education Tampa campus and the Patel Center for Global Solutions. Researchers from the Caribbean, across the U.S., as well as faculty from the USF College of Education presented on the topic of Building Solidarity Across Educational Communities: Cultivating Spaces Where Students Thrive.

U.S. Department of Education awards USF researchers $8 million to enhance school-based mental health programs
Two separate projects led by faculty in the USF College of Education and College of Behavioral and Community Sciences are being funded by a combined $8 million from the U.S. Department of Education to address mental health in Tampa Bay K-12 students.

Spring Class of 2023 Graduation for the USF College of Education
The USF College of Education awarded undergraduate and graduate degrees at spring commencement on May 5-7 at the Yuengling Center. There were many graduation cap tassels and sashes with the College of Education’s light blue color this weekend.
