William Hendrix was awarded a $1,000 STEER (System Transformation through Evidence-Based Education Reform) travel grant to attend the ACM SIGCSE conference to be held in March in Seattle.

The SIGCSE conference is the leading conference on Computer Science education. The goal of the travel grant is to support STEM faculty attendance of education conferences to help them adopt evidence-based teaching practices. The STEER project seeks to transform the culture of STEM departments in research universities by balancing the values of research and teaching. The ultimate goal of transforming institutional culture is to increase the retention and preparation of STEM majors and to produce a greater number of graduates in the STEM fields that are well prepared for life, citizenship, and careers.

This travel program is made possible by funds from NSF Grants DUE-11347753 and DUE-11525574.
