IBL 40th Anniversary
In 2026, the University of South Florida Institute on Black Life (IBL) celebrates 40 years of scholarship, student success and community engagement. Established in 1986 under founding director Dr. Juel Shannon Smith, IBL continues its vision of connecting USF and the surrounding community through research, education and cultural engagement focused on Black life. The anniversary celebration includes the IBL Gala, special events and the annual conference, bringing students, scholars and community partners together to honor its legacy and look toward the future.
