USF Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey

Next Steps

The USF Faculty Job Satisfaction survey provides insights into the experience of USF faculty and identifies areas with high faculty satisfaction and areas for improvement. This report is already being used to identify and develop initiatives aimed at support faculty success, to support an enhanced faculty experience at USF, and to further the work of USF’s involvement in the Aspire Alliance.

USF Faculty Success

The USF Faculty Job Satisfaction survey identified areas for increased faculty support that aligned with feedback and ideas generated in the Fall 2019 semester Faculty Success Workgroup. The workgroup recommended two key actions: establishing an Office of Faculty Success and participating in the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). USF recently became an institutional member of the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity and 757 individual memberships have been set up; one-third of those are faculty memberships.

There are four focus areas to create a strategic ecosystem for faculty success: interaction with students, partnerships and communication, access and empowerment, finances, infrastructure, and analysis.

Aspire Alliance

USF is a member of the Aspire Alliance as part of the Institutional Change (IChange) Network. As part of this three-year program, USF is actively working toward diversifying the STEM professoriate and promoting more inclusive teaching practices.

A team across units and campuses was put together to develop an initial understanding of what opportunities exist to support diversity and inclusion across STEM at USF. The core team, comprised of the members listed below, met from January 2020 through mid-March to work through an institutional self-assessment and identify goals relating to Recruitment, Transition, and Retention of faculty and action plans to meet these goals.

USF Aspire Alliance Goals

  • Work with Faculty Success programs to create a touchpoint for junior STEM faculty
  • Develop a hiring network across Academic Affairs
  • Compile national data related to hiring pools
  • Track hiring data for USF
  • Implement regular meetings to support new faculty
  • Work with colleges and departments to clarify faculty expectations for evaluations and tenure and promotion
