College Reach-Out Program
About CROP
"Success Is a Journey, Not a Destination!"
College Reach-Out Program (CROP) is a statewide pre-college program established in 1983 designed to increase the number of students who successfully enter and complete a postsecondary institution.
The program's primary objective is to strengthen the educational motivation and preparation of low-income and educationally disadvantaged students in grades 6 through 12, representing various cultural backgrounds, who "otherwise would be unlikely to seek admission to a community college, state university or independent post secondary institution without special support and recruitment efforts."
History of CROP at University of South Florida
The College Reach Out Program (CROP) at the University of South Florida (USF) is a cornerstone of the Transitions and Academic Growth pillar within the Office of Undergraduate Studies. This pillar is dedicated to supporting students from middle school, high school, and community college as they transition to USF. Alongside the Office of Transfer Student Success (OTSS) and Upward Bound (UB), CROP plays a vital role in ensuring that students from low-income and educationally disadvantaged backgrounds have the resources and support they need to successfully enter and complete postsecondary education.
Since its inception in 1983, CROP at USF has been committed to increasing college access and success for underrepresented students. The program motivates and prepares students through a variety of academic and social enrichment activities, including the Saturday Academic Enrichment, Summer Academic Enrichment, and Summer Residential Programs. These initiatives offer students intensive academic instruction, college counseling, career exploration, leadership development, and exposure to college life. In addition to these services, CROP also provides workshops on social and behavioral skills, community service projects, and college visits, all designed to create a supportive environment that helps students achieve their educational goals and build brighter futures.
CROP also emphasizes the importance of parental engagement, recognizing that parents play a critical role in their children's educational journey. The program offers a range of resources and information sessions to support parents, including guidance on returning to college and navigating the complexities of higher education. Through these efforts, CROP at USF not only empowers students but also strengthens families, fostering a community of support that extends beyond the classroom.
