Office of Academic Resilience and Support
what to expect
During the coaching process, students will serve as the expert of themselves and the Success Coach is there to guide the process. At the first appointment, the student and the Success Coach will discuss what topics the student wants to work on and help create goals and an action plan. The Success Coach will connect the student to the right departments and student support resources to support their action plans. Then the Success Coach will serve as a motivational champion as the student progresses towards their goals!
The number of follow-up appointments will vary from student to student based on their needs. Our Success Coaches want to serve as an accountability buddy, so, we encourage students to utilize our services until their goals are met!
Students have the flexibility to be able to set their own goals on whatever topic(s) are most important to them. Examples of the most common goals that students set with our Coaches include:
- Academic Challenges
- Exploring majors
- Re-evaluating your major choice if things don’t go as expected
- Undecided academic goals
- Having difficulty in classes
- Study skill support
- Getting involved on campus
- Finding the right clubs & activities to support your academic, career, and personal goals
- Building social connections
- Feeling disconnected or isolated from campus
- Managing commitments
- Balancing school with family and work
- And more! You get to set your own goals!
