Research

Mika’s interests are in the areas of applied anthropology, critical medical anthropology, public health, maternal and child health, infectious diseases, and global health. In her previous research, Mika worked with a community-based health organization to co-developed a women-focused syringe exchange program, and examined the impacts of violence on the risk of HIV and Hepatitis C among women injection drug-users. At USF, Mika was part of team researching reproductive health issues among international students. Mika’s experience in global health is primarily in public health capacity building. She has worked in Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Most recently, as a Global Health Specialist at APHL, Mika managed PEPFAR activities in six southern African countries, supporting laboratory and public health systems building. Currently, Mika’s focus is on vaccine preventable diseases, vaccine hesitancy, and vaccine policies in the United States.
