Since 1987, the Dade Battlefield Society, Inc., has functioned as a support group for Dade Battlefield Historic State Park, and exists to assist with the preservation and conservation of the site, its grounds and structures, and its cultural heritage. Members support all activities at the Park, and produce its 3 major annual events: a. Reenactment of Dade's Battle of 1835; b. World War II Weekend; and c. A Road Back in Time (encounters and interactions with living historians portraying figures living on the Florida frontier of the 1830's).

Internship Description

The primary task involves marketing Society-sponsored events to the public. The intern would meet with a subcommittee of the board of directors to devise advertising strategies and to create and place ads designed to reach targeted populations. A secondary responsibility would be as the coordinating writer of a government grant request intended to provide matching funds for the acquisition of a parcel of historically-significant private property.

Additional requirements: Several meetings at the state park located 50 miles north of USF. (If so desired, travel could be cut in half by riding with the intern supervisor from his residence in Dade City). At least one meeting would be on a Tuesday evening, and at least one other would be on a Saturday morning/afternoon. The balance of the required 135 hours could be performed at offsite locations of the intern's choosing.
