Research within the Biomedical Sciences (BMS) group covers a wide range of human health conditions including cancer, aging, diabetes, endometriosis, neurodegenerative disease and alcohol use disorder. Experimental applications within this group include a broad array of model systems such as the nematode worm C. elegans, transgenic and knockout mice, mouse tumor models, 2D and 3D cell culture models, amongst others. Collaborations with our focus group are found with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Health Informatics Institute, USF Obstetrics & Gynecology Department, USF Neuroscience Institute, USF College of Public Health, as well as research groups at other universities. Extramural funding for research within our focus group has been received from the following National Institutes of Health:  National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), National Institute on Aging (NIA), and National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS).
