Research Proposal Types

Types of Research Proposals
Type Description
New Proposal A proposal that is being submitted for the first time to a sponsoring agency
Subaward/Subcontract A proposal to transfer a portion of the research or effort of a prime award to another institution or organization
Competing Continuation, or Renewal A competitive proposal requesting additional funds, extending the scope of work beyond the current project period
Limited Submission Sponsor restricts the number of proposals a campus can submit to the agency
Pre-Proposal (Letter of Intent/Inquiry) A brief summary that helps a sponsor to determine if it is interested in receiving a full proposal for funding
Re-Submissions/Revision Update of a previously ssubmitted proposal that was reviewed but not selected for award
Supplement Request for additional funds for an ongoing project during the previously approved performance period
